we may have only talked for 15 minutes, but those 15 minutes were the most meaningful of my family’s lives. dolly lived a life of such light and passion. what an opportunity of a lifetime for my family and i to get to sit with her. she spoke to us like we were old friends. we talked about choir, music, dogs, and our family lives. i’ll never forget her calling me a “lil smartelic” for explaining what her rhinestone music pins meant. she listened so attentively to my sister and i as we talked about our relationship with music. she even asked us to sing with her. she assured my sister in her strength and bravery after everything she’s been through. i’ve never met someone so genuine and caring. she sat and listened, she asked us questions about our lives, and she guided my blind sister around the room simply because she wanted to help. i will never forget her smile, her kindness, and her warmth. we’ve been touched forever by her magic. no one will ever compare to her. she really was an angel walking on this earth with rhinestones on the outside and gold on the inside. we will always love you, dolly 💗 by @katieannewalker

today is the beginning of national eating disorders awareness month. today also marks one year since i began eating disorder recovery.
this past year, i’ve been going through a quiet battle with my mental and physical health. after years of disordered eating, i was officially diagnosed with anorexia and bulimia towards the end of 2024. all that consumed my every thought was what i ate, what my body looked like, and holding on to control. i began to lose myself and my passions as the disorder began to control me. when my physical health began to fall this time last year, recovery didn’t just become an option, but a requirement.
i was very afraid of recovery. the change, the work, all of it. but what scared me more was the idea of the life i would miss out on if i let the disorder win. i could lose my ability to sing, to walk, to live. ultimately, i chose recovery. it was the best choice i’ve ever made for myself.
2025 has been one of the most physically and mentally taxing years yet. although i’ve made great progress, 2026 has started off still walking through the hell sometimes. if you find yourself walking through this familiar hell, keep walking; the only way out is through it. if sharing my struggles and vulnerabilities makes one person feel less alone, seen, or heard, then i’ve done my job. if you find yourself walking through hell, grab my hand and we can walk out together. the only way out is through it.

if you need resources, @neda and @eatingrecovery are very reliable and helpful. ERC saved my life and i’ll never be able to repay the help they provided me at my worst.

much love :) 🫶🏻 by @katieannewalker
