The morning of my dad’s celebration of life service my bestfriends surprised me with a teddy bear they had made that played a recording of my favorite video of my dad. THIS is why God created community. This is why Godly community and godly friendships are so important because in moments where we could use a more tangible moment of Gods love he uses his children to do that. The hug you needed, the words you needed to hear, or the physical reminder that you are cared for and seen. This season that I have walked through has been one of the hardest of my life but it’s been FULL of moments where I have gotten to see just how much God loves me and how blessed I am to have the people in my life that I do. If you didn’t know my father picked my middle name “Jessica” from a song he said “was the happiest song he knew and that’s how he imagined his babygirl to be” and he knew how much it meant to me so he would always let me know when he was listening to it. by @katiejwright_

I made this video during our travels a few months ago and never got to post it. If there is one thing I want to do with the loss of my dad is to show God. The words on this video still remain true even though he is gone, “no revenge” because I got time that wasn’t promised to me. God blessed me with time that wasn’t really mine to have. God isn’t the reason for the bad things that happen on earth, he didn’t want it to be like this he wanted it to be like heaven here but because sin entered the world we have death and sickness. In John 11:35, Jesus wept during the story of Lazarus even though he knew that he was about to raise him from the dead. When Jesus saw everyone grieving, their heartbreak mattered to him and he cried with them the same way that he cries with us now when we experience hard things. I wouldn’t be the women I am today without the story of my dad getting sick, I wouldn’t have been given the opportunity to share my testimony literally all the way across the world and touch the lives of people who are walking through similar things. My dad’s story is a huge part of my testimony and even though I have sorrow I also have the fruits of the spirit….unimaginable peace, overflowing joy, strong faithfulness, and most of all unending love for my earthly father and my Heavenly Father. by @katiejwright_

I have typed and retyped this post a thousand and one times today and have decided that instead of talking about how he isn’t on the earth anymore I would tell you everything that was Kevin wright while he was here on this earth.My dad is one of the most unique human beings you have ever met. He might have grown up in the south but the only thing country about him is how thick that accent is. If you want to know what southern twang sounds like his voice was the definition of it. He loves everything tie-dye, likes his coffee blacker than night, his earring, and most of all he loves music and his guitars. He loves going on coffee dates with me where we spend 75% of the time talking about music and 25% of the time talking about coffee, our two favorite things. My dad can light up any room he walks into. You don’t know funny until you have met kevdog. He LOVES making people laugh and he would always say it made him feel good to make others feel good. My dad was a girl dad and it’s true that God always knows what you need because he loves his girls more than anything else on this earth and he didn’t need a son because he has me who basically is a mini him. My dad loves everything about culture he wanted to experience and see everything that God created and that’s exactly what he got to do before he left. BUT most importantly my dad loves Jesus and my dad battled cancer for almost 6 years because he loved us but in the end God loved my dad more and knew he was hurting here. 6 years still didn’t feel like enough time to say Goodbye but all I can feel is gratefulness because the lord worked in those 6 years and even though this brings great sorrow I have so much joy in my heart for all the blessings these 6 years have brought us also. That’s the power of God, he turns all graves to gardens. I am thankful that God taught me to love like every moment is your last at 17 years old because I would have missed out on so much without learning it. I have always been a daddy’s girl and that doesn’t change because he isn’t on this earth. 9 months later and @shane.alexander_smith is officially a state game warden. After everything you have endured going through this extensive training I don’t think I could ever be more proud to get to be your other half. You are one of the strongest and bravest humans that I have ever met and you completing this is proof of that. I love you more than words and am so grateful to get to have you home again.
