Not a hairstylist or barber, but still want to support The Red Chair Project? This is your chance! ❤️

Thanks to the incredible turnout at our recent events, we’re in need of restocking the supplies that help make each day possible. Your donation will go directly toward essentials like Clippercide, disinfectant sprays, capes, styling products, and other tools we use to provide free haircuts with dignity and care.

Every contribution (big or small!) helps us continue serving our community and creating meaningful moments of connection.

If you’d like to support The Red Chair Project, you can make a tax-deductible donation through our website or send a donation via Venmo @katiesteller.

Thank you for believing in this mission and helping make The Red Chair Project possible. We couldn’t do it without you. ❤️ taken in Minneapolis Central Library by @katiesteller

3 hours + 12 volunteers = 49 free haircuts for our Minneapolis community. ❤️

Today was truly something special.

A huge thank you to every volunteer who showed up and shared their time, talent, compassion, and kindness. Because of you, 49 people left feeling seen, cared for, and with a fresh new style!

We’re also incredibly grateful to our community for trusting us...not just with your hair, but with your stories, vulnerability, and the meaningful conversations that make these events so powerful.

If you’d like to learn more about @stellerkindnessproject and The Red Chair Project, or get involved in a future event, send us a DM or email katie@stellerhair.com.

Together, we’re proving that something as simple as a haircut can create connection, dignity, and hope.

Things I’ve learned since closing my business of 12.5 years:

• bankruptcy doulas should absolutely be a thing

• it’s okay to make yourself a sticker chart just to remember to shower and brush your teeth

• watching 10 seasons of Summer House in one week is apparently part of the grieving process

• when your therapist suggests meeting twice a week, it’s probably not because you’re just exceptionally fun to hang out with

• buying a $2 lottery ticket every week is actually healthy because it reminds you that you haven’t lost your hope… it’s just been buried under the weight of survival

• if you drink a couple THC beverages, you may accidentally come up with a book concept called The Cost of Kindness

• your friends will still love you after you lose everything you thought made you worthy… plot twist: you’re still actually pretty fun to be around

• for the first time in your adult life, you’re only responsible for yourself… which unfortunately means surviving on boxed mac & cheese because apparently this is the level of self-care you cultivated by 36

• dogs really are the most loyal mf’s alive

• and somehow, after all of this, you’re still determined to build an empire

Turns out losing everything also strips away the illusion that your worth was tied to what you built.

And honestly? That might end up being the most freeing part of all of this.

Truly excited for what’s next. Watch out, world :) taken in Minneapolis, Minnesota by @katiesteller

Oh hi friends…it’s me, Katie Steller

Thank you so much for all the birthday love. It truly means so much.

To be totally honest, 35 was not my year.

I won’t go into all the details, but many of you know I closed my business after 13 years… and what followed was a season of loss that stretched far beyond what I expected.

Are things hard, scary, and uncertain?

Absolutely.

Do I believe 36 holds possibility, hope, and something really meaningful?

I do.

So here’s to the people who have held me up, stood beside me, and reminded me who I am. And to anyone else walking through a season that feels impossible, but choosing to keep going anyway.

We’re doing it, and we’ve got this. by @katiesteller

Our Twin Cities community always needs love and support, but especially right now.

With a safety plan in place, The Red Chair Project is returning to the Downtown Central Minneapolis Library on February 9th, 1–4pm.

Community matters.
Showing up matters.

Ways to get involved:

✂️ Volunteer: Barbers and hairstylists—use your skills as solidarity. Offer fresh cuts, dignity, and radical kindness to our neighbors.

🧤 Donate: The Minneapolis Central Library is a frontline support space. After the recent extreme cold, they are urgently in need of coats, socks, mittens, and hats.

This is mutual aid in real time.

To donate items, funds, or volunteer, email katie@stellerhair.com or send a DM!

Hi friends. We have many neighbors who are afraid to leave their homes. I’ve received many requests for haircuts from people who don’t feel safe stepping outside right now.

A haircut might not look like resistance, but it is. Showing up is resistance. Care is resistance. Choosing community over fear is powerful.

I’m working on organizing a safe way to bring these services directly to our neighbors, but I’m realizing I can’t do it alone. If you’re a hair stylist or barber willing to show up, make house calls, and stand with our community in a real, tangible way, DM me! taken in Minneapolis, Minnesota by @katiesteller
