If you had asked me years ago what I'd end up photographing, I would've answered "Anything but weddings."

I was convinced they were too chaotic. Too much pressure. Too many things happening all at once.

Then I photographed my first wedding in 2016.

And somewhere between the fast-paced timelines, shifting light, emotional moments, and the responsibility of documenting a once-in-a-lifetime day, I realized something.

I actually thrive in that environment.

I love walking into a room and instantly noticing the little moments everyone else misses. I love solving problems before my couples even know they exist. I love keeping a calm head when the timeline shifts, finding beautiful light in unexpected places, and making people feel comfortable in front of my camera, even when they swear they're awkward.

Most of all, I love creating space for my couples to be fully present, knowing someone they trust is preserving every meaningful moment.

If we haven't met yet, I'm Katie, the photographer behind Katie Thomas Photography. My approach is calm, intentional, and timeless because I believe your wedding photos should feel just as meaningful 30 years from now as they do today.

It's funny how God took the thing I once swore I'd never do and turned it into the work I feel He is calling me to the most.

I can't imagine doing anything else. 🤍

Your getting-ready time sets the tone for the rest of your wedding day, so here are 3 things I want every bride to know:

1. Give yourself plenty of time.
Hair and makeup always seem to take a little longer than expected. Build in some breathing room so you aren’t rushing into your dress or scrambling to stay on schedule.

2. Prioritize good light.
When choosing your getting-ready space, look for lots of natural window light and enough room for everyone to move around comfortably. It makes such a difference, not just for your photos, but for how the whole morning feels.

3. Plan for the moments you’ll want photographed.
Want your mom to help with your earrings? Have a letter from your fiancé to read? Want a few quiet minutes with your bridesmaids before you get dressed? Tell your photographer! Those little moments are often some of the most meaningful images from the entire day.

Your wedding day is about so much more than getting to the ceremony on time. Give yourself room to slow down, take it in, and let the moments happen. 🤍

Some styled shoots become something more than content.

This couple never had a traditional wedding. No ceremony. No portraits. No moment frozen in time. So when we set up their first look at Firefly Lane, and he turned around and saw her, it wasn't just a photography moment. It was the wedding moment they never got to have.

He cried. She was taken aback. I kept shooting.
