Turncloak by L.K. Steven is out today! I read this book earlier this year and I absolutely adored every moment of it.

This book is everything to me. I loved Silvercloak and the world that was built. In Turncloak we see more of this world, more of the magic, and more of the angsty longing between Saffron and Levan. There’s also more of the side characters to understand what they go through and why they are as they are. And the secrets we learn. My god they are heartbreaking and illuminating all at once.

I also appreciated that because the world was already mostly built, and book 2 was more filling in bits of the world, the pacing was a bit quicker. I have no complaints about Silvercloak going a bit slower to build up the immense word and magic system, but I appreciate that it wasn’t as needed in Turncloak.

And finally, the ending. The ending of Silvercloak had me going “WHAT?!” then sitting in stunned silence. The ending of Turncloak had me pacing around the room in full stress, going “WHAT?!” over and over. I absolutely need book 3 ASAP and also am terrified of what is to come, but I know I will devour it just as fast as I did Turncloak.

The cover for By Divine Rage by @rosiesrambles is absolutely gorgeous! And it sounds like the content will be just as stunning

Every generation has a Godsgift: a young woman possessing the blood of the goddess of spring. Raised as a ward of the Church and betrothed to their immortal prophet, she is destined to fend off a devastating eternal winter.
But when this generation’s chosen one, the naive Eulia, realizes she’s been groomed as a sacrificial lamb, she flees with the help of a mysterious warlock.
Left behind is Cleio, Eulia’s passionate and furious handmaiden, who, with the support of a stoic soldier, must take Eulia’s place as a false Godsgift and root out corruption from within.
Society would wrest their agency away, but these two women with a sisterhood forged in fire will not sit idly by as their fates are decided for them. Power is their destiny. Freedom is their right.
And by divine rage, they will claim what is theirs.

Without any spoilers - oh my god, Victorious by @veschwab is everything I wanted it to be and worth the wait since finishing Vengeful! I’m so glad I was able to get an arc of it, I devoured the story (which didn’t surprise me since I can never put her books down the moment I start reading them). Victorious comes out October 6, so if you haven’t already, put your preorders in! You can preorder it from @snugbooksbmore on their website if you’re a Baltimore local!

I read Tuncloak, the second book in the Silvercloak Saga by @laurasteven in May, and omg I cannot stop thinking about it. Silvercloak brought us a beautiful, immersive world full of magic, scenery, scents, and it made you feel like you were right there with Saffron. Turncloak builds on all of this, continuing the world building where it’s needed to keep the immersion alive, and giving more heart racing, “omg I need to keep reading so I know what’s about to happen” moments. I all but flew through this book and had to make myself slow down so I would prolong the inevitable moment when I finished the book and needed the next one IMMEDIATELY. The ending left me pacing around the room from stress and I unfortunately do need book 3 right now, and am going to be waiting and stressing until I get it (I promise I will be as patient as possible bc you can’t rush art). Absolutely a 5 star read!

Turncloak comes out September 15, so you still have time to read Silvercloak and put your preorder in for Turncloak (if you’re a Baltimore local you can preorder from @snugbooksbmore!) the book will have a gorgeous full color map and sprayed edges as well as a phenomenal story!

Recently finished Seek the Traitor’s Son by Veronica Roth. A sweeping, epic dystopia fantasy world set in the ruins of our world, with so many layered stories woven together. I can’t wait for the next one. Also, if you want a copy and you’re in the Baltimore area, @snugbooksbmore has some signed first editions in stock right now!

Look, I can’t pick an overall favorite book, I’ll be standing there paralyzed if I try to, so I picked my favorite of ones I read this year. And really, no book has had me sobbing like SOTR did last year. And I’m always recommending the toxic lesbian vampires to people looking for a fantasy read at the bookstore every time we have it in stock.

Therefore:

Female Fantasy Sun, Sunrise on the Reaping Moon, Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil Rising (and Lorcan agrees, it’s why his paw is in the last shot with the book)

Silvercloak Saga book two is officially HERE 🪄🩸🌙🐉⏳
So excited to help @laurasteven reveal the cover of Turncloak ahead of the September release ❤️
Set in a dark, lush world where magic is fuelled by pain and pleasure, the Silvercloak Saga follows an undercover detective as she infiltrates the arcane criminal organisation who slaughtered her parents when she was a child—an assignment where traps lurk around every corner, and one wrong move could get her killed. Turncloak is the second installment, expanding the world, the stakes and most importantly… the villain arcs 😈
In an epic cat-and-mouse chase spanning continents, we continue Saffron’s journey straight into the mouth of hell—but the POVs also expand to include tortured kingpin Levan and his battle against darkness itself, rookie detective Auria in her quest to eradicate all violent crime in the city, and salacious royal prophet Harrow Claver as he weaves a web of deception around them all.
The series has:
🪄 wands and cloaks and ancient prophecies
🩸 a dark and twisty romance (and a fledging sapphic pairing)
🌙 police procedural & courtroom drama but fantasy
🐉 arcane animal companions & rich worldbuilding details
⏳ a shadowy order of Timeweavers who can unmake the world
🏳️‍🌈 queernorm world & inclusive rep
Turncloak is out this September, and is now available for preorder wherever books are sold! Have you read Silvercloak yet?

I cannot believe it’s been fifteen years since the Chemical Garden trilogy came out. I remember being obsessed with them during the early days of BookTube and now they have a pretty 15th anniversary re-release edition.

Happy release day for @authorjessleigh’s new novella The Hidden Gods of Appalachia! If you’re looking for some moody, spooky vibes that’s with, spicy, and absolutely captivating, this may be the book for you to pick up! I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to horror, but I absolutely devoured this book and immediately reread it bc I loved it so much! Jessica is 100% on my instant-read list of authors.

This weekend I made the potato and leek pie from @rhubarbandlavender, we got a bunch of leeks in our most recent CSA order and I wanted to use them. It was tasty and fairly easy (after I used premade pie crust) and I felt like a cozy little Hobbit tucking into my pie by @katipet1
