June 17, 2025 Like others, I got to city hall after a full work shift tired but eager to support my city.
We weren’t allowed in. “Reached capacity”, despite plenty of empty seats. 7:20 p.m.
Taína Lopez was arrested earlier for calling this out. Many demanded her release.
We watched, cheered, and booed, as over 100 Santa Ana-born people and friends spoke of shame towards a mayor that willingly chooses the oppressor in a war against a city full of life y cultura.
Life-long residents, city employees, teachers, students, and neighbors that come to Santa Ana seeking home, spoke out to address the ICE and national guard presence in Santa Ana. Demands for solutions.
Outside when voices trembled, we yelled support. Gritos of solidarity heard inside. We listened about crimes seen on peaceful protestors, and a city in fear. The mayor left her seat without notice, sending angry jeers from the crowd for the lack of respect to speakers. 8 p.m.
After 2 hours of nearly losing our voice we were finally let in. Many typed their public comments onto their phone, me included. 9 p.m.
Santaneros told of police brutality the Santa Ana Police Department (unable to be tagged ) has become infamous for. One woman showed the council her rubber bullet wound. Another told Amezcua the gas sprayed on her is nothing for her abuela guisaba el chile. Tear gas is banned for use in warfare. One teacher read notes her students wrote to trump, begging for the safety of their family.
Amezcua was criticized for blaming the city. and for failing to provide resources or solutions for those affected. A direct betrayal to Santa Ana. A puppeteer for SAPD. Blaming fellow council members for having a backbone is not representing.
She hypocritically asked, interrupting a speaker, around 10 p.m. why there were so many empty seats. I yelled out, “Why do you care now? We’ve been here since 5.” This was bleeped out in the YouTube version of the meeting.

We gather, organize, research. Systems like this want us too tired to do anything. Overworked. Numb. Complacency is not an option.
We must keep hope. In each other. To fight for our neighbors who are being forced into hiding. Hold each other accountable. taken in Santa Ana City Hall by @katuubug

come see the rest of the “100 years of el Don” exhibit today and June 1st at the Santora building from 6 - 9 p.m.

images printed on card-stock pasted on 8ft by 8ft poster board ✅

I’ve learned so much from arranging this collage and the front window displays. Thank you to everyone who helped scan old issues and trim them, couldn’t have done it without the help and moral support.

Pls feel free to hit my line for more creative display work like this !! I would love to do something like it again soon

Santa Ana and OC history, art, photography and design lovers welcome♥️

SO much communal effort and love went into this exhibit and we can’t wait to share this experience with the community. Come see a never before seen arrangement of the most awarded community college newspaper, throughout the last century. Join us at the Santora Building later today from 6 to 9!

If you can’t make it tonight, mark June 1 on your calendars for the last chance to see our show 🙂‍↕️
