An ode to sweet peas, I was excited to draw these sweet peas for the book The Ethical Gardner published by @pavilionbooks as they are one of my top summer joys, they are so easy to grow and mine have given me tens of bunches and hundreds of flowers all through the summer. The smell is the best thing ever, mine look like they're coming to the end of their season now boo hoo. botanical illustration. book illustrator. collage. gardening. florals. flowers by @katydwelsh

Here's some behind the scenes for anyone who wanted to see a bit more of the process of designing my first book cover, which option would you have chosen? . illustration freelance illustrator collage book cover design botanical by @katydwelsh

I am very very excited to share this new piece of work! Last year I worked with @pavilionbooks on the cover and internal illustrations for @thom_rutter first solo book, The Ethical Gardener. I have wanted to work on a book for the longest time and so getting this opportunity was so fun. I have always loved flowers but since having my own garden to tend to for the last few years my interest in gardening has GROWN so commission felt totally perfect. I'm really excited for it to be unleashed on the world and for people to see all the hard work that went into it. What do you think of the cover? It's available for preorder now! by @katydwelsh

Here’s a bit about my process on this project, working with a team to produce the artwork for an animated explainer video, is there anything else you want to know about how I made this?

Much fun was had teaching a collage workshop at Falmouth university for the @ba_vis_com_online students. I was imparting my wisdom on playing with abstraction and scale. It was great to see what everyone made and get out of my studio and into the big wide world.

I thought I'd explain the bit about the process of a recent illustration project, I was asked to do the artwork for a 30 second animation. It was fun to work with producers and animators and make something a bit different. Is there anything else you'd like me to share about how making this worked? by @katydwelsh

A collage I made of snails, really enjoyed whipping out the hole punch to make the leaves, did not enjoy tidying the mess so much

I've gotten a bit obsessed with gardening this year when I see a snail I feel a mixture of annoyed that they are chomping my plants but also struck by how cool their shells look, I was really feeling like I wanted to collage them so last week I did. its actually really hard to convey their patterning in paper, do you think I managed it? ..................................................collage illustration nature gardening freelance illustrator colourful art by @katydwelsh
