Where to beginnn?! I am in awe of the students and so grateful to my fellow faculty and staff, all of whom gave their WHOLE HEARTS to this one. It was a big joy. As a professor friend stopped me on the sidewalk to say yesterday, it was palpable that the cast onstage and all students backstage were oozing with care for one another. That’s how the truly good stuff happens. Finally, Kron and Tesori wrote a masterpiece based on Bechdel’s masterpiece. And here’s to manyyyyy more queer musicals being written! It’s so exciting that this current crop of Oberlin students grew up singing Ring of Keys and belting out Changing My Major when they were preteens. We need more more more! 🔑 by @katyearlybird

Next up this season, City Lyric Opera City Lyric Opera presents PIERROT: Arnold Schoenberg’s "Pierrot Lunaire" alongside new material composed by Omar Najmi with lyrics by Katy Early and Hugh Ferriss. In this staged work for soprano, Pierrot ensemble, and mime, we follow the artists through an expressionistic landscape of lunatics, lovers, and poetry. Starring Olivia Greene and Jordan le Bozec. Directed by Katy Early and Music Directed by Mila Henry. Tickets are ON SALE NOW! Oberlin College Theater is excited to welcome Katy Early ‘16 (she/her) back to Oberlin as a Visiting Assistant Professor! 😊 You can read more about Katy below: Equally at home in theater and opera, Katy is a stage director and performer. She makes politically relevant and personally resonant work that endeavors to shift our communities away from violence towards care. This fall, she will begin a visiting assistant professorship at Oberlin College teaching directing and acting in the theater department. She is thrilled to be working with collaborators in New York, New England, and beyond. Recent directing credits include Dance Nation by Clare Barron (Brooklyn College, 2024); The Smallest Sound in the Smallest Space by Bryce McClendon (the cell theater, 2023); and a site-specific production of La Traviata (MassOpera, 2021). In 2022, she co-founded the Boston-based new music incubator, Catalyst New Music, where she is the associate artistic director. With a particular interest in how folk music can be blended with theater, she has trained with several European theater companies in France and Poland (Pantheatre, The Roy Hart Center, Teatr Zar, Song of the Goat). While in graduate school, Katy’s interests in directing for film and TV also led to her studying at the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, where she made her first short film HER KIND in the fall of 2023. She holds bachelor’s degrees in theater and vocal performance from Oberlin College & Conservatory and a MFA in stage directing from Brooklyn College. by @katyearlybird
