This month I met Marina Abramović, are six words I never imagined coming from my mouth. So this is going on the grid!🥀🔪👀Ever since her work was introduced to me during art class in high school, I have been fascinated by its intensity and blunt confrontations with the audience. I watched and read everything i could find, and started performing for the camera myself. When I heard that Marina accepted my request for a one-on-one interview on the day of her exhibition opening at @stedelijkmuseum in Amsterdam I was ecstatic!💌 If you subscribe to my newsletter `dear midnight’ you will have received an email last weekend in which i wrote about her exhibition and our encounter. 💌 Newsletter incoming💌 To be honest it’s been difficult to stay awake past 10pm during the past months 😅🤰🏼so the frequency of my midnight writing sessions has slowed down quite a bit. Can’t believe it’s been 5 years today that I joined the dream team Elisa Medde @elsmdd , Ayumi Higuchi @ayhgnl and Hamid Sallali at @foam_magazine . Moving to Amsterdam on a whim for an unknown amount of time, i had no idea that it would turn out to be the most transformative, challenging and rewarding few years. I am incredibly grateful to have been able to learn from the best❤️‍🔥, and for the many inspiring encounters, work related travels, lessons learned and new friends made along the way. For five years I called Foam Magazine my ‘baby’….until now!As I settle into my maternity break and prepare for the next chapter as a mother, the focus is shifting. Seasons are changing on many levels and that’s why I wanted to take a moment to celebrate and thank everyone that has been there for me along the way - to blow wind into my sails, to celebrate the highs, to ask the right questions at the right time and to offer comfort and perspective during the lows. I couldn’t have done it (and especially the last few months) without my loving partner, family and friends. You know who you are✨ by @katyhundertmark

Fashionably late, but made with love 💌Dear Midnight💌 my monthly newsletter on all things photography, publishing and the artistic process is back after a long break. I won’t lie, this letter has been sitting in my drafts folder for months now waiting for me to step outside the baby bubble, reassemble my brain cells and pull everything together for you. Maybe it took this long because I still find it difficult to put my experience in writing, to craft solid words from material this intangible and vaporous. Obviously the first edition after maternity leave had to focus on the image of motherhood and artists that widen our understanding of what mothering can look like. 💌 For my last newsletter I interviewed graphic designer Ayumi Higuchi ( @ayhgnl ) about her work on the @aperturefnd publication `I’m So Happy You Are Here - Japanese Women Photographers from the 1950s to Now‘. Edited by Pauline Vermare and Lesley A. Martin, with the support of Carrie Cushman, Kelly Midori McCormick and Takeuchi Mariko, the book presents a long overdue collection of overlooked or underexposed photographers that deserve international attention. Despite the lack of earlier recognition, these woman made substantial contributions to the medium and unveil new perspectives on Japanese society - from historic events to the beauty in the mundane. For a new reading room exhibition that opens tonight at @enter___enter Ayumi collected 50 photobooks by artists included in the publication. 🌬️🌿Foam Magazine #64 EXTREMES - The Environmental IssueI’m proud to share it with you, because this was a challenging one! Diving deeply into our theme, the environmental crisis brought on by humans, was confronting at times. The incredible artists and authors featured in this issue help capture and express what is important to address in this context: the causes and shared responsibilities of a planet in crisis. But also the hope and communal effort that exists to change the future course, and how photography can play a role in this.This was also the first magazine since Elisa (@elsmdd ) has moved on to new exciting things! Our colleague, mentor, and guide who has shaped the magazine and my way of looking and working with photography so immensely over the past years. Elisa opened new conversations, doors, and built bridges with her work for Foam Magazine. We strive to continue walking this path you carved in photo land, dear❤️With this issue we hope to raise awareness, reflection and re-imagination around a subject that affects us all. The Weekend Page and Microfilm Meanderings 🎞My Scottish Great-Grandfather William Jeffrey was a poet and author for The Glasgow Herald newspaper in the 1940s and 50s. Next to theatre reviews and articles he wrote a weekly column called The Weekend Page, in which he spoke about walking and his connection to nature and landscape. In 2017 i worked on a project for which I extracted those columns from the microfilm archive at the Mitchell Library and merged them with images i took on various walks…creating a sort of conversation across decades.I hadn’t been back to Scotland since moving to Amsterdam in 2020, but these past days I’ve finally touched ground again, and was reminded of his words and the many hikes I did there. Feeling inspired and grateful to have been able to reconnect with family, friends, landscapes and a place of contemplation that feels like home. Looking forward to the next time! by @katyhundertmark
