Reflect On Past Accomplishments... WE as a community spoke in defiance against a destructive "project". Time to gather again! MAY 26. Planning Dept BE THERE ~> Mobilization is key, speak your truth is needed. From 2013.... "Controversial Hanalei Plantation Resort project—spearheaded by Pierre Omidyar's Ohana Real Estate Investors—stalled due to community pushback. Ohana Hanalei LLC consolidated 63 acres on the Kauakaniunu Ridge above Hanalei Bay. The original plan featuring 86 bungalows and 34 lots was ultimately abandoned.History of the Development PlanThe Vision: Ohana Real Estate sought to develop a low-density, high-end "Hanalei Plantation Resort". The vision included a combination of standalone hotel bungalow units and residential estate lots.Land Consolidation: In 2013, the Kauai Planning Commission approved the consolidation of multiple parcels overlooking the Hanalei River and the crescent of Hanalei Bay.Community Pushback: The project faced immense opposition from local residents and environmental groups. Over 6,000 community members signed a petition citing concerns that a private, luxury development would disrupt public view planes and alter the "fishing-village" character of Hanalei by @kauaistyle101
