An article by Mehwash Hussain @__mehwash in @timesofindia @bangalore_times about the first of our many gatherings that brings together families and artists across different cities to document family rituals and memories through creative expression.

This article captures the idea behind it and shares experiences of participants from the session hosted by @mysticeti.studio at @attagalatta

We are now taking this to more spaces and gatherings!

Glimpses from Edition 2 of Documenting Family Rituals. We loved listening to the rituals and stories that make every family unique.

Fun fact: The jute jhola is an important part of our book Bapa Wants Fish and holds the essence of family rituals and memories in the story. It’s been wonderful to see how the jhola is extending beyond the book, with more families preserving their own rituals and stories.

A workshop that introduced children to worldbuilding and prompted them to create their own worlds around the theme of marketplaces. Children engaged with prompts to imagine objects for their shop rack, assembled a collective installation, and took home their individual creations. Through elements of installation-making, the workshop helped them understand how individual ideas come together to form an imaginary world.

Interpreting our city’s architecture through traditional art forms, designing games inspired by our surroundings, documenting visual stories, creating zines about big ideas for our city, and writing poems about the place we call home.

Patriotism Begins at Home was a celebration of creativity and love for our hometown — the first place where we learn to belong. by @kauri.centre

Glimpses from our photo walk at the ghats where children walked, observed, and photographed the ghats, capturing the architecture, the river, and the everyday life that makes the city what it is.

Very happy to share the first two stories by Ira Verma, our 14-year-old contributing writer and editor, for our children-led journal, Us in This Round World.

We love the way Ira looks at the world: how she finds meaning in the things around her, makes sense of what she cannot control, and turns her observations into something deeply personal. In her own words, she hopes her writing can “make readers feel less alone in their thoughts or make an ordinary detail suddenly worth noticing.”

At Mysticeti, we believe children’s thoughts and ideas deserve to be taken seriously—not simply as expressions of childhood, but as ways of seeing, questioning, and understanding the world that are valuable in their own right. They deserve space to wander, grow, be challenged, and take shape on their own terms.

This belief is at the heart of Us in This Round World, and of everything we create with and for young people. by @kauri.centre

Patriotism Begins at Home brings together artworks, installations, and performances by children inspired by their love for their city and expressed through art.
Come experience Varanasi through the eyes of its youngest citizens-their dreams, observations, and ideas. A reminder that the truest spirit of patriotism often begins with caring for the place we call home. by @kauri.centre

We took Rohini’s cyanotypes (@woohoochild @thealiporepost) to Kenzen School (@kidzeevaranasi) and put up a small showcase for the children in their “treehouse”. They guessed different materials that could have been used to make the art, and described them as X-rays and real-like-3D. They tried making their own cyanotypes for the very first time and created stencils and compositions on the theme of their city — including cyanotypes of jalebi, ghats and mango leaves. For some the magic was in watching the colours change in the sun and for others it was making their own art like Rohini.

A super wholesome afternoon with a group of curious little people 🫶 by @kauri.centre
