if the cardboard box could speak 🥹📦written with much more understanding, and with a lot of guilt for being so hard on mom about the cardboard boxes she insisted on packing, ruining my “vacation.”mom left behind her whole village and 7 siblings to seek a new life in america. it was only on this trip back to vietnam, seeing everyone run to greet her that i could fathom how lonely she must have felt and how much she must have missed her family back home.dear young kavi, we will never understand these feelings, so let them pack as many vitamins and toothpaste as they must. #vietnam #saigon #spokenwordpoetry by @kavi.vu

sorry i kept hitting you chị @thysaigon, i’ve been excited for this series 🥴 while i was editing this, i thought of how beautiful it is that she knew so many, but said she hasn’t heard them in decades. i think it’s why i remain steadfast in my exploration of vietnamese idioms - i didn’t grow up with many of these and im afraid our generation is going to lose them forever, huhu. 😤 but not on my watchchị thy was so good i almost ran out of idioms! pls send more if you have em heehee#vietnamese #learnvietnamese by @kavi.vu

i did not write this poem, but it was written to me in the form of an instagram comment and it had my screen very blurry 🥺I saved it in my notes immediately and found myself re-reading it to find courage to keep writing when my inner critic tells me i have nothing unique or profound to add (daily, ha.)i pulled it up during april 30, which is a complicated day to be in the middle of within the vietnamese diaspora. it’s called Reunification Day in Vietnam, complete with parades, fireworks, and an unwavering display of national pride. In the US, it’s called Fall of Saigon, where there are candlelight vigils and everyone in my community wore black in memory of loved ones. i’m not smart enough to comment on any of the many sides of war so i stick to writing poetry that brings me a little closer to my own roots, and maybe that’s enough. thank you, dear writer, for encouraging me with your words.i’ll never forget this gesture#poetry #vietnam by @kavi.vu

vietnamese idiom about love, through poetry ❤️Day 9 | a poem a day with the topic:“____ But ____” I went with “Blossoms, But Bites” to encapsulate the whole crazy idea of love and this vietnamese idiom “Thương Nhau Lắm, Cắn Nhau Đau”i am new to this kind of love and it baffles and amazes me.
