Kayla is stepping into the role of Director of Minor League Player Development, continuing to show up for Brooklyn the same way she always has. From supporting events to playing on our DUPR 18 team, she has been BKPT through and through.

Coach Kayla will be growing and leading alongside Head Coach @kyle.mckenzie.pb as we keep building something special for our Minor League players and the future of this program.

Who knew a wiffle ball could bring the world together? 🌍🥒🇯🇲
A weekend of unity, heart, and healing — Jamaica showed up and showed out @pickleballworldcupofficial 💚💛🖤

Still can’t believe I got to wear these colors on the world stage… Representing and playing for Team Jamaica (@pickleandchilljamaica) at the @pickleballworldcupofficial, hosted by @playthefort, was nothing short of a dream come true.

Amidst everything happening back home, our team — especially those flying straight from 🇯🇲 🙌🏾— showed up with heart, pride, and resilience. 💚💛🖤 We played with purpose, and left it all on the court.

The love, support, and energy across the event transcended borders and language. For a few days, we were all one — and it’s wild to think a tiny plastic wiffle ball could be the thing to bring us together. 🌍

To everyone who shared condolences and strength for Jamaica, thank you. It’s moments like these that remind us what unity really looks like.

I’m 29, living at home, and apparently still flirting with the idea of being a student again.

I graduated from Pitt in 2019 with a degree in Natural Sciences, and at the time, I was fully committed to becoming a Physician Assistant. My degree was focused on that path, I’d logged over 2,500 hours of shadowing across multiple medical disciplines, and I’d even gotten to the point of applying to PA schools. I’d put a lot of time and energy into building a future I genuinely thought I was going to have.

Looking back, I think part of me had questions about whether it was the right fit all along, but I hadn’t fully worked through them. Sometimes life has a way of making you stop and reconsider things before you’ve figured out how to do that on your own.

The years since graduation have taught me a lot, all of it outside a classroom. I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out who I am, what matters to me, and what I actually want out of life, rather than what I thought I was supposed to want.

These days, I’m building Pickled Minds around mental health and connection, working in player development for the MLP franchise, The Brooklyn Pickleball Team, and thinking seriously about how I can continue to bring mental health and mental performance together with pickleball in a more practical, hands-on and impactful way.

I keep returning to the idea of going back to school to study something adjacent to mental health. I don’t have a plan mapped out yet, and I’m trying not to rush into the next thing just because I feel like I should have it figured out by now.

I’m learning that not using my degree the way I expected doesn’t mean those years were wasted, and taking a less conventional route doesn’t mean I’m not making progress or am less "successful".

I’m still figuring it out. I'm just grateful to have a much better idea of what feels right for me than I did at 22.

Anyway, apparently all it takes is one university library to get me reconsidering my entire life plan.

Cape Town started it, and somehow now we're here: your wedding day. 🤍🥹

We might not always be the day-to-day friends, but when you find someone with a heart as good as this one, you keep them in your corner.

She's the kind of friend who checks on you through your darkest seasons, sends handwritten notes & countless messages, finds ways to stay connected from miles away, and somehow even our families became part of the friendship too.

Distance, years, different chapters… none of it seems to matter when it counts.

So after all these years and all that distance, getting to be here for the very reason we all reunited was pretty special.

Watching one of my closest Pitt friends marry her person, who I was lucky enough to know way back in the day at Pitt where they met (proof in slide 5) 🥹🤍
