today my mind is full of Shaheen Bagh
of 2019, the voices of dissent, the art, the music, the children and aunties, how the young boys and elder women volunteered every day to gently do security checks after the shooting at Jamia, how aunties would make snacks and distribute frooti in the evenings, the auto driver's who would give us free rides from the metro station, the pile of onions, the poetry, the communities of students that housed us after protests on more than one late night because our college was too far away..
things felt possible, like we were so close to something...
.
I'm sitting in Gurgaon now in a post-Covid world, and I wonder where we go from here. What will dissent look like in the years to come?

I think of Umar Khalid who is still in jail without trial. What it felt like to watch him speak, to listen to him recite poetry as they called him a threat to national security...
.
.
every day I wake up with my heart in my throat-- as a critical thinking instructor, what do I teach my students about resistance in the age of UAPA, in the age of ai, in the age of misinformation, in the age of surveillance, in the age of genocide, of war, and on and on and on....
.
I wonder..
