I love the slow days, and I love the quiet time spent in our home, but the thing I love most is watching my kids do the things that bring them joy. Whatever and wherever that may be.

So I’ll pack the bags, and wash the uniforms, and drive them to the ends of the earth if I have to, because their joy is my joy.

A few years ago I asked a close family friend if she could make us a classic “Happy Birthday” banner that we could put up for each birthday. It quickly became one of my favorite parts of decorating for each of my kids birthdays.

Eating their special birthday cake at the table, under our birthday banner, is a tradition I love so much, and so do they. So grateful for these sweet memories.

The world is telling us that we need a 12-step skincare routine, and now our 12 year olds think their money is best spent at Sephora.

The world is telling us to chase every trend, and now we chase the same ones while dressing our “mini-me”s.

The world has convinced us our creativity is best spent on a screen, and now our girls are searching for their worth in double clicks and little red hearts.

There will be a time when our little girls will be little teenagers, and it will come so, so quickly. So let’s let them be little.

For this very short amount of time, let’s protect their childhood from the things that are not meant for them.

I refuse to waste these precious childhood years rushing into the years that are inevitably coming, and I’m okay saying no to the “older” things that little girls shouldn’t be focused on simply because the world is telling them to.

Protect childhood.

When I was struggling to find *my* people, here’s what I did.

I made the first move. I started saying hi and introducing myself to people I thought I would get along well with. I started asking people to get together, or go to lunch, and I started hosting the events.

Sometimes it never happens, people cancel or just no show, and that’s okay. You won’t be for everyone, and not everyone will be for you, and finding *your* people takes time and effort.

I started doing things that were a little uncomfortable at first, but it turns out that it’s uncomfortable for the majority of us, and we’re all just waiting for someone else to make the first move.

So introduce yourself, go to lunch, host the party, plan the event, because your people are out there ✨
