I’ve loved every book in the When in Rome series and I’m so sad this series is over!🥹😭 While I finished this back in April, I am still thinking about how adorable James & Madison were in this.

The audiobook for this one was amazing. Madison, the baby of the Walker clan has always been the wild child who’s always changing her mind and pivoting in life. When she moves to NYC for culinary school, her family didn’t think she’d pull it off. Barely graduating and dealing with the PTSD of abusive teachers, Madison has been experiencing panic attacks. One night, she accidentally calls James, the farm boy next door who always pushed her buttons and opens up to him about her struggles. Cut to James asking Madison to come back to Kentucky and run his family farms new restuarant. Little does Madison know that the restaurant was created just for her! *swoon*💕

These childhood friends to lovers was full of chemistry and slow burn that I absolutely ate up. I lived for James yearning and giving Madison the space she needed to find her confidence again. The family dynamic of the Walker siblings was top notch in this one and seeing how all the previously couples were living by the end of the book made my heart so happy!

I can’t wait to read whatever Sarah writes next and I am so grateful for the vulnerable love and support the When in Rome series gave us!

🍉☀️𝙹𝚞𝚗𝚎 𝚆𝚛𝚊𝚙 𝚄𝚙 + 𝚂𝚊𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚜☀️⛱️

June was the end of the school year and preparing for summer break! While I only got to 4 books, I really enjoyed diving into some nonfiction that gave me some new insight. I also finished the Playing For Keeps series by Becka Mack and LOVED it! I cannot recommend this series enough! It is so full of hope, love, and genuine connection. Look out for my review of the series soon!

Heyyyyy!

Welcome to Life Lately April + May Edition!

I started working on this the second week of April and then life got in the way but here we are! The last two months have been filled to the brim with new experiences, special moments, and lots of therapy & artwork. I continue to do a lot of off-app things during this period of my life but I have been slowly getting more reading done which I love!

In April:
-We had a family vacation to Bend, Oregon and hiked some pretty amazing trails with unreal views
-I worked my first weddings and really fell in love with my new job
-I started practicing more art forms and bought new colored pencils, painted on a canvas, and eventually bought oil pastels & watercolors to play with
-My babies participated in their first ever talent show and were amazing!
-I went to bookish trivia and had a blast with local booksta girlies!
-Explored a town over from us with my babies and soaked up the sunshine
-Celebrated 4 years on bookstagram
-Rehomed some books and decluttered my house
-Got a haircut that finally gave me the bangs I was looking for
-Cried A LOT to Noah Kahan’s new album
-Celebrated Indie Bookstore Day & tried several Vietnamese drinks

In May:
-More weddings!
-Went to the ocean and explored the low tide with my mini-me for her school field trip
-Painted a picture with oil pastels for a friends wedding gift
-Met Katee Robert at her book release party!!!( still screaming!)
-Had an amazing mothers day at the Ballard Farmers Market & was spoiled rotten
-Went Razor Clam hunting in the Westport, WA area ( shout out to Tessa Bailey for putting that on the map for me!)
-Saw Remarkably Bright Creatures at a private screening and met Shelby Van Pelt!
-Ate a lot of yummy food
-Attended book club with Booked With Babes in both months!

Overall, two amazing months filled with so much love and joy!

👋🏻oh hi! Took a little 2 week mental health break from this space but here I am at the first of the month ready to try again🤪🤣

May was the month of Becka Mack! I’ve been loving this series so much and I’m so sad I only have one book left to go!! I had a great reading month and loved getting to more books compared to previous months. With the weather getting nicer in the PNW, I’m ready for hot girl walks, yard work, and all the things with an audiobook in my ear!

This month I listened to 6 audiobooks and read 1 ebook!

So crazy how much reading I did last year and how significantly smaller this number is. But hey! That’s okay. This season of my life is focused on other things and reading has become something I love again rather than an obligation.

🌌Thief of Night✨

When I tell you I was OBSESSED with Book of Night a few years back, it would be an understatement. So when the opportunity came to read book 2 of The Charlatan Duology, I hopped on board! I was even lucky enough to pick up a signed copy of book 2 from Third Place Books in Seattle and screamed!

While I love the concept of this duology, shadows being manipulated and used in this modern urban-fantasy, the final book for this left me a little unsatisfied. Still staying in the same vein as book one with a slow start the plunges into a fast-paced joy ride with our FMC Charlie as she navigates the dark underbelly of society that deals in money, greed, death, and shadows - I just was expecting more?

This book really relies heavily on the unique magical elements with the power of shadows and that alone just blows my mind. Like what a cool story element to write about! Still full of mystery like book 1, book 2 felt less suspenseful for me as we were dealing with a lot of emotional elements this time around. With the political aspect more in the background this time, I did love how Charlie and Red developed their own rhythm in this.

I think this time, I really felt for Charlie and her character after getting a more in depth look at her life and her decision making from book 1. I think given her difficult situation resulting from the gut-punch that was the cliffhanger ending of book 1, I understood her and appreciated her so much more that allowed me to empathize with her. I LOVED the short clips of Red from his interview transcripts and thought it was a really clever way to get into the mind of an overall unfamiliar character. While I wanted more of the shadow magic that was so heavy in book 1, this was really a strong way to finish the duology.

This was a page turning, scheme filled, angsty romance with some great moments of comedic relief. I will forever read whatever Holly Black pumps out.
