CHICKEN TABAKA WITH POTATOES 🍗🔥

Flatten your chicken before you bake it, and watch what happens.

Ingredients:

1 whole chicken
Potatoes
1/2 cup avocado oil
1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
1 tbsp ketchup
1 tsp sriracha (optional)
Garlic & herb seasoning
Garlic powder
Paprika
Salt
Pepper

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 400°F
2️⃣ Cut the chicken open down the backbone and press it flat
3️⃣ In a separate bowl, mix avocado oil, teriyaki, ketchup, sriracha, and all your seasonings
4️⃣ Rub the mixture all over the chicken, every inch, and lay it in your baking dish
5️⃣ Add potatoes around the chicken so they soak up all the juices
6️⃣ Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour
7️⃣ Remove the foil and bake 30 more minutes until the skin is golden and crispy

Sweet, smoky, a little spicy, and juicy all the way through. That's tabaka. 🤤

Some days you just need someone else to make breakfast 🍳☕

Today we headed to @eaturbanpress, and this spot means a little more to us. Kaykov Media designed the entire interior, from the layout and finishes to the details that give it its personality. We wanted a space that feels modern and inviting, the kind of place you want to sit down in and stay awhile.

So of course we had to come back and see if the food lives up to the space 👀

They put together a few of their breakfast favorites, and we brought everything back to the Kaykov kitchen for the most important part of the job: the taste test.

The verdict? You'll have to watch 😉

No eggs to crack, no stove to turn on, no pans to clean. If today is one of those days for you too, you know where to go.

Never baked challah? This is your sign to start 🍞✨

Soft, golden, and braided by hand. This makes a big batch, enough for several loaves.

Ingredients

5 lbs flour
3 packets active dry yeast
1–1½ cups sugar (plus 2 tbsp for the yeast)
2 whole eggs + 1 egg white (save the yolk for brushing!)
2 tbsp salt
1 cup oil
4–5 cups warm water, 105–110°F (40–43°C)

How to
1️⃣ Dissolve the yeast and 2 tbsp sugar in some of the warm water and let it get foamy.
2️⃣ Make a well in the flour, add the sugar and eggs, and put the salt on the side.
3️⃣ Pour in the activated yeast and the rest of the water, then knead well.
4️⃣ Add the oil and keep kneading until smooth.
5️⃣ Cover and let rise until doubled.
6️⃣ Divide into balls and rest 10–15 min.
7️⃣ Shape it any way you like: 3-braid, 4-braid, or round. Rise 20 more min.
8️⃣ Brush with egg yolk and top with sesame or everything seasoning.
9️⃣ Bake at 350°F (175°C) until deep golden.

Perfect for your Shabbat table 🕯️

People always ask me about my challah journey… so here’s my why🤍

It started after attending a challah event where Diana Isakhov @dianaiskhakov_14 inspired me. As the New Year was approaching, I wanted to take on something meaningful as a Jewish woman, so I committed to making challah every week.

What started as simply making challah became my time with Hashem — my time to pray, reflect, listen, and find myself.

Along the way, I learned that not everyone is meant to stay for every chapter of my story, and that life has a way of bringing the right people into my path at the right time. I began to see myself differently and learn things about myself I hadn’t known before.

After completing my 40-week challah cycle, I remember thinking…

Maybe this is it.
Maybe I got what I was looking for.

But my journey wasn’t over.

I stopped making challah.

And when I stopped, I started to feel like something was missing.

Whenever I found my way back to challah, somehow it gave me exactly what I needed — hope, clarity, and faith that things would work themselves out.

One day I asked Hashem:

“Hashem, give me the clarity to see what’s meant for me, and the strength to choose what’s right for me.”

I made my challah. I prayed. And the clarity came.

I realized the answer wasn’t about someone else making the choice for me. It was about having the strength to make it for myself.

To choose myself.
To trust myself.
To love myself.

I started making challah to become closer to Hashem.

Somewhere along the way, I became closer to myself too.

And that is my why🤍 by @kaykovmunchies

A thousand-year-old tradition where every food is a wish.

For over 1,500 years, the tradition of Simanim has brought families together to eat prayers and wishes for the year ahead. Every food on the Rosh Hashanah table tells a story and carries a blessing.

Discover the spiritual meaning behind each symbolic dish:

Dates (Tamar) - May our enemies come to an end
Black-Eyed Peas (Rubia/Lubia) - May our merits increase and multiply
Cabbage/Leek - May those who wish us harm be cut off
Beets (Selek) - May our enemies and those who wish us harm depart
Pumpkin (Kra) - May the evil of our decrees be torn apart, and may our merits be proclaimed
Pomegranate (Rimon) - May we be filled with mitzvot like a pomegranate
Apple Dipped in Honey (Tapuach U'Dvash) - May you renew us for a good and sweet year
Fish Head - May we lead with purpose, not just follow

So this year, ask yourself: What are you leaving behind, and what are you hoping to grow? May every wish on this table follow you into the year ahead.

A special thank you to Gift World Judaica (2220 Main St, Flushing NY 11367) for the beautiful plate and honey pouring dish that made our Rosh Hashanah table complete.

There's something so powerful about taking a simple piece of dough and filling it with intention, prayer, and hope.

A round challah for Rosh Hashanah: no beginning, no end. A circle that flows from one year into the next, carrying our traditions forward with our own hands. The hands our mothers and grandmothers used. The same hands we're using now.

I pray for health. For peace. For love in our homes. For sweetness and blessings.

And maybe while you're in the kitchen, take a moment to ask for everything your heart is hoping for this new year.

Fried Fish 🐟🧄
My family only makes this on the biggest Jewish holidays — and Rosh Hashanah is the perfect excuse.

Ingredients:

2-3 lbs fish, cut into pieces
Salt
Oil, for frying
3 cloves garlic
1/2 bunch cilantro, chopped
Reserved fish broth (the water used to rinse/cook the fish)

🔥 Steps:
1️⃣ Salt and rinse the fish, then pat completely dry with paper towels
2️⃣ Heat oil in a pot until very hot
3️⃣ Fry the fish, covering with cardboard so it doesn't splatter
4️⃣ Set the fried fish aside to cool
5️⃣ Crush the garlic into the reserved broth, add cilantro, and mix
6️⃣ Dip each piece of fish into the broth
7️⃣ Pour the remaining broth over all the fish
8️⃣ Chill for a few hours until it sets into a garlicky jelly
9️⃣ Serve cold

Crispy, garlicky, and impossibly nostalgic 🤍

Rosh Hashanah Gefilte Fish 🐟✨
Another one my family only makes for the biggest Jewish holidays — and it's worth every step.

Ingredients:

Fish (raw and boiled, deboned)
2 onions (1 boiled, 1 raw)
1.5 cilantro
2 eggs
1 cup matzo meal
Carrots, sliced
Salt

Broth:

Reserved fish broth, strained
1 boiled onion

🔥 Steps:
1️⃣ Boil water with one onion, skimming off the foam as it rises
2️⃣ Add the fish, cover, and boil for 25 minutes on low heat
3️⃣ Remove the fish and pick through it to remove every bone
4️⃣ Strain the broth into foil and let it simmer on low
5️⃣ In a food processor, blend the raw and cooked fish with the boiled onion, raw onion, and cilantro
6️⃣ Mix in eggs and matzo meals with the mixture
7️⃣ Shape into cutlets
8️⃣ Place the form cutlet into the foil with the broth, top with sliced carrots, seal, and cook on low 45 minutes
9️⃣ Chill in the refrigerator
🔟 Serve with horseradish and beets

Rich, comforting, and made with love — this one's a true holiday staple 🤍
