5 Hard Truths About Mental Health
1. Happiness is a choice.
You’re not promised a life without struggle. Hard seasons are part of life, but you can still choose joy, hope, and gratitude in the middle of them.
2. Your mind can become your biggest enemy.
Fear, anxiety, and impostor syndrome will convince you of things that aren’t true. Your thoughts are not always reality. Give yourself grace, challenge the lies, and keep moving forward.
3. Comparison steals your joy.
Stop measuring your life against someone else’s highlight reel. You only see what people choose to show. You have no idea what battles they’re fighting behind closed doors.
4. Gratitude changes everything.
When you start focusing on what you have instead of what you lack, your perspective shifts. Gratitude won’t remove every problem, but it will keep your problems from controlling you.
5. Community is everything.
You were never meant to carry life’s burdens alone. Find people who will encourage you, challenge you, pray for you, and remind you who you are. Isolation feeds the darkness. Healing happens in the light.
Mental health isn’t about never struggling. It’s about refusing to let your struggles define you. Keep showing up. Keep asking for help. Keep fighting. You are stronger than you think. by @kayla_millar

I’m lucky to have you not only as my sister, but as one of my best friends. You’ve always been a constant in my life. Through the highest highs and the lowest lows, you’re there. And not just for me, but for my girls too.

I’ll never forget the phone call I got from you when we first started building all of this and the words of love and encouragement you gave me. And now we get to work together. I’m grateful to God for putting us in this position and giving us the opportunity to build this next chapter side by side.

I look back at our story and see God’s hand in all of it. You came into my life when I was broken, walls up, carrying unhealed trauma, and often pushing you away. But you stayed.
We had every odd against us. We got pregnant with JJ early on and I know many didn’t think we’d make it.
But we did.
Not because it was easy or perfect but because through every high and low, every mistake and season of growth, we kept choosing each other.
We grew up together learning some of life’s hardest lessons side by side. We both had struggles, both fought our own battles, and we hurt each other at times. We fell short, we changed, but underneath it all was love, and we were always each other’s constant.
Eventually we had to decide: grow apart or grow together.
So we chose growth.
We chose to heal, to communicate, to forgive, and to fight for our family and ourselves. We decided failure wasn’t an option because neither of us was willing to give up.
We’re far from perfect and so is our marriage, but that’s part of why I love our story.
We’re a team.
When one falls, the other lifts. When life gets heavy, we carry it together. Every day, we choose to be better for ourselves, each other, and our family.
Now I can look back at every closed door, heartbreak, and hard season before you and understand it a little more.
God knew what He was doing.
I don’t just love you, I’m grateful for you.
For the man who stayed when I pushed him away. For the boy I grew up with and the man I continue to grow with.
For the father you’ve become.
For my teammate, my constant, my husband.
Against all odds here we are.
Still choosing each other.
Still growing.
Still building what we started.
Still us. ❤️

Walking around New York City with my best friend, something I’ll never forget. We’ve had so many ups and downs across our marriage, and it’s hard not to sit back and reflect on how we got here and where we are today.
