How fitting that my first byline is with Essence! Growing up, their magazine was always a staple in my grandma’s living room in LA and now I get to share what it meant to return with my dad to his hometown of Cali, Colombia. So happy to make my family (and our WhatsApp chat 🥹) proud. All these years amplifying other diverse storytellers… and now I get to use those skills to pitch and share my own family story 🖤

This summer has been full of the kinds of plans, i wouldn't have been able to anticipate they just happen because I'm open.

Growing up doesn't automatically mean growing boring.

I'm keeping the whimsy alive. The stylistic creativity. The outfits that only make sense to me. The "yes, let's do it" energy and who cares who's watching.

Life's more fun when you let yourself be a little goofy ball.

34 is my year of grace.

Earlier this year, I witnessed someone lose their life in a traumatic way. Two months later, a consulting project came to an abrupt end.

This year has reminded me that so much of life is outside our control.

So I'm choosing grace.

Grace to figure out consulting and build my own rulebook in my own time.

Grace to create boundaries that protect my peace.

Grace to embrace a more fluid lifestyle that honors my love of travel instead of clinging to one I've written for myself.

Most of all, grace to accept the love that's surrounded me. My family and friends have caught me, encouraged me, and reminded me that I don't have to carry uncertainty alone.

I don't know exactly what 34 will bring, but I trust that whatever comes, I'll have the people, perspective, and resources to work through it.

Grateful for another year. 🤎 Thanks for all the heartfelt warm wishes this birthday by @kaylafory

Everyone travels for different reasons.

Some people chase beaches. Some chase food. Some chase landmarks.

I follow curiosity.

Over the years, that curiosity has led me to Black communities across Cuba, Colombia, Ghana, Brazil, Jamaica, and beyond. Different languages. Different histories. Different rhythms. Yet somehow, pieces of home show up everywhere.

Travel has taught me that Blackness isn't a monolith, it's a global conversation.

The more places I visit, the more connected I feel to people, culture, and myself.

Everyone thinks of Rio when they think of traveling #Brazil, but don't sleep on #salvadorbahia.

The food. The music. The energy. The culture. It reminded me of living in Ghana more than any other city in Latin America. (You can't tell me farofa isn't garri!!!) 🤤

I believe Black people deserve to experience and enjoy Black spaces across the global diaspora.

Living by my traveler's mindset means tapping into the intentions, curiosity, and care that goes into building out an itinerary. My international family inspired my curiosity for the world from and early age and I've been grateful to visit many incredible places that expand how I approach my day-to-day.

Obrigada São Paulo

Feeling so blessed to take this once in a lifetime trip to Brazil!! I've dreamed of coming here for years and years it's the perfect fusion of places I love: 🇨🇴 my heritage, 🇨🇺 influential trip studying abroad, 🇬🇭 living abroad for 2 years.

Grateful for the years of personal finance discipline to budget, save, and invest so my "Escape Fund" is ready for excursions like this one. Being Brazil is the combination of years of Intention + Preparation. I'm realizing that the future me I was planning for is me NOW.
