For Forward Warrior this year I wanted to honor my Pookie. I adopted my best friend from the Atlanta Humane Society 13 years ago. It’s hard to put into words how much life has happened in those 13 years and he’s been right there beside me through all of it.

One of the sweetest and most unexpected parts of painting this mural was how many people saw their own cat. Thank you to everyone who stopped to show me photos of their cats, tell me their stories and remember the ones they’ve lost. There were even a few tears. It made this one mean even more to me.

Grateful for another year of @forwardwarrior making art with my friends and being part of something so special for the neighborhood. Thank you to everyone who works so hard to make it happen every year especially @fastredcar 🐈‍⬛🌺 taken in Forward Warrior by @kayleenscott

This piece, titled “Liquid Sunshine,” is all about those little nostalgic moments that stay with you.

In 1999, 8-year-old me begged my mom for a lava lamp. In the middle of the night on Christmas Eve, I woke up to a pink glow filling my room—Santa came through!

I wanted to pair my love for that lava lamp with a flower power print. Fashion in the ‘90s borrowed so much from the ‘60s, and I was completely obsessed with the hippie aesthetic. The Halloween before, I got a flower-print hippie costume from Party City that I practically lived in for months afterward. 🌼✌️ taken in ABV GALLERY by @kayleenscott

This year for @forwardwarrior I wanted to honor my dear friend Natalie who sadly passed away from leukemia 6 months ago. Natalie assisted with my Forward Warrior mural for the last 5 years, even last year when she was in remission. Natalie was creative and hardworking. She loved art. This clown piece is inspired by one of her drawings. I miss and love her always 🕊️ taken in Forward Warrior by @kayleenscott
