it started off with passing out spells the first day of summer training. little did i know that i would continue to battle these symptoms and many more. but going to the team doctor i was told it was all in my head and diagnosed as anxiety. my obvious reaction was that it must be a mistake. there’s no way these physical symptoms i was experiencing were all in my imagination. i mean hell there’s no way to explain a young, healthy, athlete’s heart rate being 130 bmp resting to 250 bmp training. but i was told by many around me that i wasn’t doing enough for my mental health and to use the resources that are available to me on campus. not to mention not being allowed to do the one thing i’ve always done, play soccer. but after many months and test later and a doctor who finally listened and advocated for me, i was diagnosed with POTs or Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. While my knowledge is still limited on the autoimmune disorder, I can’t even begin to explain the validation and closure I now have.

i write this not only to inform others but bringing awareness for the importance in advocating for your health. advocating for yourself does not make you crazy or a mental case as I was called by so many. in the end Mental Health is Health. by @kayliclark_
