Unless you’ve had to walk those hospital corridors, spend sleepless nights waiting for updates, watch your mum fight for her life, or experience the heartbreak of her waking up and not knowing who you are, you’ll never truly understand what those moments take from you. You’ll never know what it’s like to celebrate the smallest signs of progress while silently preparing yourself for the possibility of losing the person you love most. These are the parts of my story that will stay with me forever. The world is so big yet I protect this place on earth like you wouldn’t believe. 💕☁️💕 Grief is something you learn to carry, even when some days it feels heavier than others. A year on from losing my mum, there are still days when I struggle to comprehend that she’s not here. I think about all the things she’ll never get to experience with me, the milestones she’ll never witness and the moments I’ll never get to share with her. Sometimes the hardest part isn’t looking back at what I’ve lost, but looking ahead at everything still to come and knowing she’ll never physically be there. Yet, somehow, amongst all of that, I’ve continued to build a life, work towards my goals and find purpose in something that means so much to me. I’m almost at the end of my first year as a paediatric student nurse, and when I look back at what I’ve achieved, I’m incredibly proud. From achieving high grades and 100% in my medication examinations, to developing my clinical skills, gaining experience in placements, learning to care for children and their families, and continuing to push myself academically and personally. There have been days when I’ve questioned how I can care for others when the person who cared for me most is no longer here. Days when grief, exhaustion and the pressure of everything have felt overwhelming. But nursing has also given me purpose, and in many ways, it has brought me closer to a part of myself that I know my mum would have been proud of. I wish more than anything that I could pick up the phone and tell her everything. That she could see how far I’ve come, hear about my achievements and be there for the moments I’ve worked so hard towards. I don’t think I’ by @kaytiesn

Excited to announce, you’re now looking at your self-employed phlebotomist & clinical Assistant within General Practice. Alongside this, I’ll also be continuing my training towards my paediatric status. Given all I’ve endured I really am so proud of myself for using my already gained medical knowledge. And doing this along my peds training all while being offered a very rare self employed opportunity. I still cannot get over how much I can make being SE never been more grateful. by @kaytiesn

Completely exhausted, but so close to the finish line. Balancing long hours on placement, the pressure of exams, achieving high marks, getting every sign-off completed and navigating grief at the same time has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Some days I feel physically and mentally drained, trying to keep everything together whilst dealing with so much behind the scenes. But I’ve continued to show up, push myself and give everything I have to this degree. Today in surgery was another reminder of how far I’ve come. Two weeks away from completing my first year and progressing into second year, and despite everything, the positive feedback and compliments I’ve received throughout my placements make it all feel worth it. But it’s the little moments that mean the most. Sitting at my desk and having my little patients run up to me with a smile, wanting to play, and knowing they recognise me as *their nurse* is such a special feeling. To be someone they feel comfortable with, someone they recognise and trust, is a reminder of exactly why I chose this path. I’m doing this whilst navigating grief, managing the pressures of university and pushing myself to achieve the best marks I can. It hasn’t been easy, but I’m proud of myself for continuing to show up, even on the days when things feel heavy. Two weeks to go. One step closer to becoming the paediatric nurse I’ve worked so hard to be. 🩺 by @kaytiesn
