A depth map is an image that represents how far objects in a photo are from the camera. It is usually displayed as a grayscale image, with different shades representing different distances. While a normal photograph records a scene in two dimensions using color, brightness, and shape, it does not directly contain information about how far each object is from the camera. A depth map adds this sense of depth to a 2D image by assigning different values to different areas of the photo.

In a typical depth map, white represents areas that are closer to the camera, while black represents areas that are farther away. Shades of gray represent the distances in between. For example, if a person is standing in front of a building, the person can be shown in white and the background in black. This tells the software that the person is closer to the camera and the building is farther away. By using different shades of gray, it is also possible to represent more subtle differences in distance.

The white and black in a depth map do not represent brightness or color in the original photograph. Instead, they represent depth. In a normal photo, a white wall may simply look white because it is brightly lit. In a depth map, however, a white area is interpreted as being closer to the camera, while a black area is interpreted as being farther away. This distinction is one of the most important concepts to understand when working with depth maps. taken in Tokyo, Japan by @kazuki_eeeee

There are moments that feel like they belong in a movie, even when nothing is really happening. Just a person, a little light, and a feeling that I wanted to keep in a frame. taken in Japan by @kazuki_eeeee
