PART ONE

BIGBANG 20th Anniversary Tour, London

There was no way we were squeezing this night into one post.

BIGBANG’s return to London after 14 years deserved more than a quick recap, so our full review is being shared in two parts.

Part One takes us from the atmosphere building outside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, through that explosive opening with Fantastic Baby, and into the first half of the show, ending with CHAOS.

The scale was enormous, the VIPs were deafening and G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung made sure London knew exactly why BIGBANG are still BIGBANG.

Today marks the final episode of Beginner’s Kimchi School.

During my two-week journey across Korea,
I experienced the incredible diversity of kimchi—from cabbage, mustard leaf and white kimchi to water kimchi, spring onion kimchi, stuffed kimchi and many more.

One thing became clear: there is no single “Korean kimchi.” Every region has its own traditions, ingredients, flavours and fermentation methods, reflecting its local climate, produce and culinary heritage.

I hope this series has helped you discover that kimchi is far more than a side dish—it’s a living tradition with hundreds of regional varieties and a story to tell.

Beyond Kimchi: My Journey Through Korea

I visited the World Institute of Kimchi (WIKIM) to meet the researchers and discuss potential future research projects.

I also received my Global Kimchi Ambassador certificate, chef’s jacket and business cards!

I have been working with WIKIM since 2018, so it was wonderful to see everyone again and continue our collaboration to promote kimchi around the world.

Beyond Kimchi: My Journey Through Korea

During the Chuseok holiday, I visited a hospital’s outpatient clinic on Saturday for my regular knee treatment.

Although the hospital was operating a reduced service, a small section remained open for patients. I registered, met the doctor and received injections in both knees.

Korea has a National Health Insurance Service, but I was treated as a private, self-paying patient. I paid just over £100—and the entire visit took only 30 minutes from start to finish!

Quick, organised and efficient.

Beyond Kimchi: My Journey Through Korea

Even waiting for a bus can reveal something interesting about everyday life in Korea!

These smart bus shelters offer heating in winter and air conditioning in summer. You can charge your phone and check real-time bus arrivals, service hours, the temperature and local air quality—all while you wait.

Seoul began introducing Smart Shelters at selected locations in 2021. The pilot was created to test their effectiveness before considering wider expansion, so they are still not available at every bus stop.

Beyond Kimchi: My Journey Through Korea

Myeongdong Cathedral holds a very special place in my heart.

Completed in 1898, it was Korea’s first Gothic-style building, constructed in distinctive red brick. It has stood at the heart of Korean Catholic faith for over a century and also became a sanctuary during the country’s pro-democracy movement.

Today, I joined the queue for the 11 a.m. Mass. As filming is not permitted inside, I could only capture a few moments while waiting.

People come here to attend Mass, pray and find a moment of peace. Attending Mass here is always special, and today’s visit was especially meaningful—one I will always remember.

Parking in Korea can be challenging, but technology is making it easier.

From short-stay spaces and paid car parks to the Parking Friends app, drivers have several options.
Some unused resident-priority spaces can even be booked through the app.

I also spotted this owl-shaped AI monitor! Its coloured lights show whether a space is available, reserved, occupied or being used without permission.

Another interesting glimpse into everyday life in Korea!
