The @bellevuecollege International Guitar Series opens tonight with acclaimed classical guitarist @haoyang_guitar

Born in China and educated at the Curtis Institute of Music, the University of Denver, and Yale.

Hao, who joined us for an extraordinary in-studio today, belongs to a new generation of musicians bringing a fresh and vibrant perspective to an old tradition.

Her playing has earned international recognition, including top honors at the prestigious Koblenz International Guitar Competition in Germany, the 2026 Harvard Musical Association Foote Award, and first prize at the Andrés Segovia International Guitar Competition, to name just a few.

But beyond the awards is a musician whose curiosity reaches across centuries, cultures, and musical forms. Her repertoire moves from the European classical tradition to contemporary compositions that explore memory, musical inheritance, and the ways the past continues to speak to the present.

She performs tonight at the Carlson Theatre on the campus of Bellevue College! by @kbcs

@bushwickbookclub folks stopped by this week to perform songs inspired by Emily St. John Mandel’s Station 11.

We heard two original songs based on the book by @theroyalouiband and @aaronstarkey and two additional songs inspired by Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass and the poetry of Ruth Marie Tomlinson.

We had just the loveliest conversation with the amazing @shanny2dope this afternoon!

Shannon Lay’s new album is called Past the Veil and it’s an ethereal, layered, beauty of a record filled with compassion and gentle earthy truths that are all swirled into grooves you can dance to.

“Oak composes but bamboo improvises.”

We had a beautiful conversation with Ottmar Liebert this afternoon and touched on surrendering control and trusting the musicians around you even if (maybe especially if) they’re playing a bucket of water.

We listened to some amazing not yet released recordings from the 1990’s LAVA project, chatted about Rilke’s poetry and how lovely it it is to have the freedom to misspell a wrod.

@mayadevitry @ethan.yojev and @joeltimmonsmusic returned to the KBCS studio this after for a fantastic discussion about the new Maya de Vitry album All My Faith. They performed three songs for us including a gorgeous version of “Traveller” and a blistering version of “All My Faith.”
