Festival of Nations 2026 🔥
I value TEAM. And damn, this is a good one.

TWO years ago I was in the crowd watching El Draco + Free Nation, wowed by their seemingly endless energy.

ONE week ago I was onstage with them, headlining Festival of Nations - with more than 100,000 people celebrating 80 countries from around the globe. Full (f’n) circle!

And it was HOT. Like, hot hot. 🔥 AND ridiculously fun. If you haven’t seen this band yet, it’s a must.

2026 Boston University Tanglewood Institute Trumpet Workshop wrapped with our final recital at Trinity Church in Lenox MA - a tradition that’s continued since I was a student!

What a privilege to guide this incredible group of young trumpeters for two weeks in the Berkshires. Thank you to all of their teachers who helped them get here. 🙏

Another beloved BUTI tradition is Terry Everson. Though he took the summer off (congrats, Grampa T!), he couldn’t stay away for long and returned to share his wisdom with our students.

July 4th ended with a dash down the Mass Pike to Boston to hear Terry perform Summon the Heroes with the Pops, just like he demonstrated in class(!), but under an incredible drone show over the Charles. 🤘

Huge thanks to @ebensdorf and @liamday37 for helping create an invaluable live mock audition experience, @landongray for leading our daily warmups and being an incredible right hand assistant, @brooking.caldwell for helping us find our grounding through body-mind warmups, and @rrh34music for bringing such artistry to the piano collaboration!

Old home week indeed. ❤️🎺 Loved being in that Chamber Music Hall on Tanglewood grounds again! Grateful to give back to a program that gave so much to me.

Eldraco+FreeNation headline “Lost In The Rhythm,” a high-energy, dance-driven concert experience celebrating the upcoming release of their newest single, recognized as a community favored entry in the 2026 NPR Tiny Desk Contest. Blending pop-funk, soul, and groove-forward live instrumentation, this is a night built for movement; dancing isn’t just encouraged, it’s expected.

Sharing the bill is The Charlie Berry Project @cb3project , led by the grandson of rock and roll pioneer Chuck Berry, bridging St. Louis’ legendary sound with its next generation.
With special guest appearances by Grammy Award winner Karin Bliznik @kblizo , Dreavocalz @dreavocalz , and Frankie DooWop @frankiedowop , with Electric David @electric_david playing a special show set for the 5:30 VIP reception. “Lost In The Rhythm” is a full-night vibe built for connection, celebration, and a packed dance floor.

National Trumpet Competition 2026 🎺 @uiowamusic

Soooo grateful for the mentors who help build this incredible community. Of course it’s about the music, but it starts with the people.

Over the past few days, we heard some of the most talented trumpet players in the nation. Imagine the NCAA of trumpet playing - ensembles representing their schools, just like any sports team. What they learn functioning as a unit - from leadership to pride to work ethic - is invaluable. Time and again, we see how this competition propels students to the next level.

I’m proud to support the growth of a community that is diverse, welcoming, and a true catalyst within the arts. As a former competitor and winner, I have deep respect for everyone who put in the work to be on that stage.

Announcing…NEW MOVEMENTS

April 3, Greenfinch Theater
Doors at 7pm, Show at 8pm

Featuring:

- Kblizo (Karin Bliznik) and Brooking Caldwell (trumpet, words, and more)
- Jane Tellini (new movement piece with nine dancers)
- Alex Cunningham (solo violin)
- Zach TBD (new movement piece with four dancers, prepared and live music accompaniment, lights, costumes, and rope)

The St. Louis experimental and improvisational music and movement art communities are bursting with activity and new forms of expression. At Greenfinch you will see four performances, about 20-30 minutes each, with a brief intermission between the second and third acts. There will be dancers, movement artists, musicians, lights, and costumes, coordinated moments and continually improvised phrases.

Proceeds will be donated to St. Louis Sudbury School, which offers self-directed education prioritizing young people’s well-being, self-awareness, and ability to connect with those around them. You can help them reach their fundraising goal here: https://givebutter.com/reimagine-education

Seating is limited! If you’d like to come, the safe move is to purchase a ticket in advance. If there are any tickets left, we’ll sell them at the door on April 3.

LA Phil Tour: Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei (& Disney Hall!) Grateful to have shared the stage NINE times with this exceptional brass crew - onstage and off - led by @gustavodudamel, an inspiring humanitarian. I secretly loved watching the audience weep through the video monitors. 🥲

Highlight: My first time at Suntory Hall was in 2009 performing Mahler 5 with MTT and the PMF Festival Orchestra. Returning for Mahler 2 with Dudamel feels full circle - you can truly feel the life of a career when you return to the halls that first inspired you.
