The Twenty Dates - Ko Porteous

It’s my date on the book tour for The Twenty Dates by @koporteousauthor today - thank you so much to Ko Porteous and @rachelsrandomresources for having me on this tour!

This is book two in The Empty Nesters series but it’s the first one I’ve read so is absolutely readable as a standalone!!

What I really like about this book is that it’s relateable, both main characters (Claire and Mark) have flaws, both make mistakes, but both are fundamentally good people who absolutely love each other.

They’ve just fallen into a slump, highlighted by Mark gifting Claire scales for their nineteenth anniversary. Something she had talked about wanting in the past but also not something she wanted as an anniversary present.

Since their only son has left to go to university, and leaving her job, Claire has felt at a loss, not knowing what her purpose was. This isn’t helped by Mark being very busy at work, only home sporadically, and in Claire’s eyes, putting her below other priorities.

With their marriage in crisis, they come up with the idea of twenty dates to save their marriage - things which are a bit different and push some of their boundaries.

We follow the couple on all these dates, some extremely daring, some more simple.

And without giving too much away, the dates take us on a rollercoaster of emotions. Both characters’ flaws are highlighted, but also their determination to fight for each other and their marriage. The love between them is apparent throughout, but they need to work through their issues in order to be able to start again.

This really was such a good book, funny, uplifting, realistic, relateable, emotional, and romantic. The characters and side characters were all so well written and it really made me want them all to be happy!

I definitely recommend this, and am going to try and go back and read the first in the series too!!

The Museum Of Modern Love - Mariko Turk

Mariko Turk is a new author to me, and I didn’t know much about the book going into it. But i was soon hooked - what a brilliantly sweet, fun book.

This YA book was so well written! It’s set over one night in the Met in New York, and the setting is one of my favourite things about it. It really provides the best backdrop to the story.

Miki is an intern at the Met and has a plan to tell her long distance best friend (who is also an intern there) that she loves him. Her grandparents fell in love there and she has an elaborate plan to follow in their footsteps.

However, her plans are ruined when she ends up having to show around Lou, who happens to be her ex. As they explore the same pieces of art her grandparents fell in love over, Miki and Lou reconnect, and she realises that love may not be what she initially thought it was.

As i said, this was such a nice book, and following Miki’s train of thought as she learns more about herself and realises what she wants is lovely.

The descriptions of the art and the feelings they provoke in Miki are one of my favourite things though - as someone who isn’t particularly into art, this has made me want to go to a museum or gallery and look at it in a different way!!

I really enjoyed this! 💕

Thank you so much to @marikoturk @inkroadbooks and @instabooktours for having me on this book tour! 😀

Falling For You - Heidi Swain

Today is my date on the book tour for Falling For You by Heidi Swain - thank you so much @heidi_swain @simonschusteruk and @randomthingstours for having me!

I only just discovered Heidi’s books last year and really enjoyed All Wrapped Up (and it’s stunning autumnal cover), so when I saw another book set in autumn, I knew I had to read it! 🍁🍂🍁🍂

Skylar moves into Nightingale Square with her father, Rafe - the first time they’ve lived together after Skylar reaches a crossroads in her life.

She had been a workaholic and was also quite isolated in her previous job, and this meant she was a bit reluctant to become involved in the new community. However, we see her coming out of her shell bit by bit thanks to some encouragement from her grandfather and father, and the welcoming nature of her new neighbours.

She also meets Erik, a former rugby player who had to retire early through injury, and despite a bad first meeting, they soon agree to become friends.

As Skylar integrates more and more into the community, she also learns more about herself, about what makes her happy, and about what she wants her life to look like.

And all this was set against an autumnal backdrop - who can resist an autumn book?! My favourite time of the year, everything looks stunning!

I loved this book, the main characters were so well developed and likeable and i was really wanting them to end up together. The secondary characters also played a big role without being too prominent - the balance was absolutely perfect, and I really enjoy when the other characters are so likeable too!

I think this is especially important in books about community, which this book is - you want to get a sense of that community and this book delivers that and more.

Such a cosy autumnal read - I absolutely loved it!! 🍁🍂🍁🍂

A swoonworthy romcom of second chances and surprising connections, set over one night in New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

"A yearning rush that builds into a full tidal wave of desire." - Stephanie Perkins, New York Times bestselling author of Overdue and Anna and the French Kiss

Tonight, inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art - somewhere between the hours of 8 PM and 5 AM - Auden Peck will fall in love with Miki Kawamura.

That's Miki's plan anyway. And the plan is destiny.

Her grandparents fell in love after accidentally being locked in the Met overnight in 1965. And so now, after too many almost-confessions, hopeless romantic Miki will finally tell her best friend Auden that she loves him by retracing her grandparents' love story through the museum's hallowed halls.

But destiny has other plans. Because it's not Auden who joins Miki on her midnight tour . . . it's Lou McSweeney. The world's most jaded cynic - and Miki's ex.

How can she possibly bare her heart to Auden when she's stuck sparring with the boy who broke it? Is her masterpiece of a plan truly written in the stars? Or will the night paint a wholly different picture?

An irresistible and instant classic about the thrilling, often infuriating, rush of first love, guaranteed to sweep you off your feet, perfect for fans of Lynn Painter and Jenny Han.

How To Find Romance In A Bookshop - Poppy Alexander

It’s my date on the book tour for How To Find Romance In A Bookshop by Poppy Alexander - thank you so much to @poppyalexanderbooks @harper360uk and @randomthingstours for having me!!

I have a huge soft spot for romance books set in bookshops, so knew I had to read this one. I hadn’t previously read the first one in the series (but am going to go back and read it now!) and managed to follow everything just fine, so it’s definitely good to read as a standalone too.

I was taken in by the setting immediately - a bookshop in a seaside town…what else do you need?! Petra, the main female character and a literary agent, had moved there temporarily to look after a bookshop, and to get away from the fallout after a misplaced social media post.

There she immediately ran into Ross, who she later found out was a famous author who had disappeared from the scene after the success of his first book.

They become friends and this develops into having feelings for each other after spending so much time together. But Ross doesn’t want to mix business and pleasure, and they both need to decide if it’s better for her to be his agent, or for them to give their romance a try.

I thought this was a lovely book, very sweet. The romance between Petra and Ross was cute, and their backstories, issues, and seeing them regain their confidence was so nice.

As i said, the setting was probably my favourite thing and i’m definitely going to read the previous book in the universe.

All round, a lovely sweet and easy read! 💕
