Behind all humanities education are core, compelling questions that force us to consider humanity, life, society, culture, and our places in it. The master educator learns to frame instruction around these questions. This book is the first to examine the merits and strengths of inquiry-based instruction from the outside and with practical, not theoretical explanations of how to do it. For those unfamiliar with inquiry— it clearly defines “types” of inquiry and explores which is best at each grade level and how to do it. Releasing December 2026. Did you know women are only 5-20% of the school curriculum? It's time to change that. Women deserve to be half the content. #Herstory #WomensHistory #EducationReform #EqualityInEducation #FeministHistory #GenderStudies #HistoryEducation #MakeHerstory by @kbrookeckert

.
We are back in France and the towns are amazing. No one was out running with me and my son is currently obsessed with Beauty and the Beast so this song ran through my head as I went: “that girl is strange no question.” It’s really nice being able to converse again. by @kbrookeckert

“Great things are done when ‘women’ and mountains meet.” —William Blake (sort of)
Just a little spam from our European adventures. The real shock— I’ve been napping everyday and embracing rest.
I normally don’t post my kids here— but I couldn’t resist the last one at the Do Re Me fountain. by @kbrookeckert

Part 4/4: That last 3 miles in an 140.6 are the hardest. Even with the crowds and the cheers, my body was done. There was a sign on course that said, “When your legs can’t run anymore, run with your heart.” I decided to just soak it in. 3 more miles. One step at a time.

As I came into town the path was lined with spectators. Felix (Race Director), said he expected 300,000 people. You loop into town then into a stadium and run a small square with the whole crowd cheering. There were so many people, I didn’t know if I’d see my family. Then there they were, Jeff and the boys. I stopped and gave each one a kiss. Pete’s smile was the widest I’d ever seen it. 100 feet to the finish.

11:38. Absolutely bonkers. If you’d asked me a week ago I would have said I could finish, but it was going to be rough. Two weeks ago I’d have said it would be painful and finishing was unlikely. 11:38. 12 minutes off my PR, in the chop, and the headwinds, early in the season, abroad in a different time zone… I’ll take it.

Thank you to everyone who tracked me and sent cheers. Roth is magical. This is by far the best race I’ve done. I wish I could come back year after year.

All morning, though, I wasn’t thinking about finishing times, or any aspect of the race in particular. I just kept saying to Jeff, “I get to do this.“ It’s not just that IRONMAN is an incredibly expensive sport, or that I got to travel abroad. Yeah those are obvious signs of privilege. But I’m also realizing just how grateful I am to be physically capable of doing it, uninjured, toeing the line with some of the best athletes on a day where the men broke the world record. One percent of humans get to do this. I get to do this. Every minute on the course is magic.

Thank you Roth. This was hands down the best long distance triathlon I’ve done— and I’ve now done 8. by @kbrookeckert

Part 3/4: Then I remembered that a bad run is usually a bad bike manifesting. Did I go too hard? What are the next 4 hours going to look like on course? That was probably dumb.

Mile 1: 8:46
Mile 2: 8:58

Yeah… we’re going to run until we blow up. 🏃🏽‍♀️

My everyday pace is 10 minute miles. I was happy at 9:20, just cruising along chatting with people. It was pancake flat down and back in the canal for 15 miles. I kept thinking about how my mile pace has gone from 12, to 11, to 10 now closer to 9 over the four years since I returned to sport post-babies. When I first got into triathlon I was only doing sprints. I’d run these 27 minute 5ks off the bike and couldn’t figure out how to go faster— then I added distance and my pace stayed at 9 minutes— it was just my pace. I remember Rachel once saying, “you can do anything for 20 minutes…” I absolutely hate 5ks. I’d have a good gap on her off the bike— but I could never settle because she was a huntress in a 5k.

Keep high fiving the kids.

Every time I hit a timer, I kept thinking, “Are you seeing this Jeff?” Like if you thought I went out too fast— are you seeing that it’s holding? Where is this coming from? Two weeks ago I was limping on an aggravated IT band and crying through my last big ride.

I kept thinking about track with Amber and Gabby, Rachel, Rachel J, Pete, Jeff and the rest of the team this spring. Every week I’d go destroy myself on Tuesdays and then try and figure out how to still do volume the next day. Thank you for helping me to find my speed.

Fuel: I had a gel every 30 minutes until my stomach couldn’t take it anymore. Then I did only water and coke. Coke for the caffeine.

In training, I never run more than like 18 miles. I knew it was all fun and games until you get beyond that 18 mile marker. And that’s right where the hills were. Ignorance is really bliss. I barely looked at this course lay out. I was so focused on getting my fuel for the bike, I couldn’t tell you what the run looked like. All the elevation was on the back end down cobble stone streets. I just stared at my feet worried I’d trip. by @kbrookeckert

Part 2/4: The bike was amazing. My watch alerts me every 5 miles my time for that stretch. The closer to 15 minutes, I’m going 20mph. The first few were 16 minutes each. And I was holding it. I kept checking my watts: 145. I’m not overdoing it. I’ve got this. Somewhere around mile 30 I was like, “I feel strong, I’m riding until the wheels come off,” which if you know the 140.6 distance— is a stupid thing to think. It’s a long day and I was only like a quarter into the ride. 🤣

There was a massive headwind headed back towards town. I was back and forth with some guys and we started chatting and cheering for each other. This one guy was pretty quiet. I assumed he only spoke German, then I came by him through the farm fields and he just goes, “Fucking headwind, fucking headwind.” It was the only negative thing I heard on course all day and he was just joking. Everyone was positive. We had our nationality on our bibs so I could ride by and cheer, “Go Brazil!” Or “Bon Chance!” Or, “Let’s go U.S.A.!” Or my favorite, “let’s catch the boys.” 😉

The wind was bad, and I knew it would get worse as the weather moved in after noon. Lap two was going to be a tester— but then I kept averaging good splits in spite of it. There were some fun turns downhill and long stretches of farmland. I was flying. It was probably dumb— but I’d already decided— until the wheels come off. 🤡

Then I got to Solarer Berg. Every hill climb had been incredible, just so many people out cheering for you. Alert, aware, and hyped on the race. Every restaurant had moved outside of the day to line the hills. It was amazing. Still, I was unprepared for how amazing Solarer Berg would be. You round the corner and the streets are lined with DATEV green flags tight overhead, creating the tunnel. As the hill gets steeper, the tunnel gets tighter. People were cheering, doing the wave, giving you five, for what felt like forever. Was there even a hill there? Yes, there was, I was pushed 297 watts up it and my heart rate was at 180. Cool. Apparently I’m a sucker for hype. 😎 Bike portion continued in comments. by @kbrookeckert
