This hot shot fighter pilot, philosopher, strategist, planning aficionado, unrelenting optimist and lover of life died on Sunday morning. I had the best Dad, the most fervent supporter, the most trusted counselor, perhaps insano sports fan and amazing cocktail-maker. He demonstrated how to face challenges with grace, strength, wit and wisdom, so he set me and my brothers and my Mum up to handle life without him. But, I am really not happy about it. Really, really, not loving it.

Want to know more about the Ahmadi family? They are a mom, dad and 7 children aged 1-17. They arrived to the US from Afghanistan in January 2020 and they are resettling in Sacramento. Dad holds a civil engineering degree and served the US military in Afghanistan for more than 15 years. The family arrived right at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Resettling during a pandemic is extraordinarily difficult. Dad is actively seeking a job and and pursuing his degree in the US. All the children are happy here and hoping to start school again soon. They urgently need household supplies including towels, kitchen supplies, beds, bedding and tablets for home learning. Thank you for showing your support and warm welcome. Robbie was a close friend of Shawn’s family. He had mental illness. He was unarmed. He was fatally shot by a cop who knew him, knew of his illness, and has been involved in 2 other fatal shootings AND was fired by Las Vegas PD after beating a man. It’s completely unbelievable. When you’re 37wks pregnant and you go too hard celebrating the 4th (ie leaving the house w a toddler), and walk a liiiitle too far, your water breaks and early on the morning of July 5th, you find yourself in a very sleeeepy selfie with a new little bundle of love.
