Well-known for his gritty and ruthless action dramas like New World (2013) and The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion (2018), Park returns with a bloodbath triggered by the death of a kill-squad leader. In the wake of a kill squad leaderโ€™s death, the assassins he has trained, and Bangkokโ€™s criminal rivals, go into a feeding frenzy for power and revenge. Park Hoon-jungโ€™s action noir is about violence โ€“ its never-ending, self-begetting nature, and the scars that it leaves (both physical and psychological) which never heal, never forgive and never allow escape. Thrillingly stylised and brutally kinetic, this requires a strong stomach but is absolutely astonishing. The yellow combi van in which these characters are travelling points to both the similar vehicle (and similar dysfunctional family comedy) of Little Miss Sunshine (2006), and to the similarly colour-coded female revenge of the Kill Bill films (2003-4).
