A few members of the Louisville Country Day Class of 1961 are coming together virtually from across the country this weekend in honor of their 65th Reunion. This Class dedicated their Fleur de Lis Yearbook to Head of School Mr. John R. Gernert for whom KCD’s natural parts playground is named for. The organizers of the call had a great number of achievements in their time at LCD. Enjoy your time together, Daymen! by @kcdalumni

Hometown Hero! 🌟⚾️ This morning, KCD alumnus, Royal Bearcat Hall of Famer, and three-time World Series champion for the LA Dodgers, Will Smith ’13, was honored with his very own Hometown Heroes banner. The “Will’s Louisville” banner is featured prominently on the side of Grocers Ice Lofts next to Louisville Slugger Field on Main Street in Downtown Louisville.

This morning’s press conference featured remarks from special guests including Governor Andy Beshear, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg, UofL Head Baseball Coach Dan McDonnell, Rick Redman of Hillerich & Bradsby Co., KCD parent Tommy Floyd of Denton Floyd Real Estate, and MC Terry Meiners.

Will was joined by his parents, Julie and Mark Smith, and various mentors, coaches, and friends from different phases of his career, including his KCD Varsity Baseball Head Coach, Joe Maione!

To bring this special banner project to life, Kentucky Country Day School was grateful to partner with University of Louisville Baseball, John Crockett ’82 and the LG&E and KU Foundation, The Trager Family Foundation, The Cox Family Foundation, Billy ’76 and Monette Beam, Adam and Nicole Beckum, and Jacob Spielberg ’13 and Kentucky Mirror & Plate Glass. We are also grateful to Denton Floyd Real Estate for providing the wall space for the banner and graciously hosting this morning’s press conference.

Special thanks to the Will Smith Hometown Heroes Committee, Jeanne Hilt, Executive Director of the Greater Louisville Pride Foundation, Mike Sheehy, President and founding member of the Greater Louisville Pride Foundation, and Kate Bonner ’05, KCD Director of Alumni Relations and Community Partnerships, for their collaborative efforts to fundraise, coordinate the project, and bring our community together in support of Will.

Congratulations, Will! Your Bearcat family is so proud of you. 💙💛

Our alumni continually recall the impact KCD’s Honors Program and Dr. Michael Goldberg have had on them, including Emily Minor ’18 who came by for a campus visit today. Emily attended Northeastern University in Boston, and stayed to enter into a career in Computer Science and Cyber Security.

Dr. Goldberg’s courses helped her to feel confident in her own voice, thoughts, and ideas, and prepared her to contribute confidently in her college classes. She remembered how rigorous the readings and the 20-page final thesis were, but was thankful she had that experience under her belt at Northeastern. We really enjoyed visiting with you, Emily!
