When I was appointed and confirmed as King County Executive, my administration launched a 200 Day Plan. It focused our efforts on delivering results for the people of King County, while preparing a responsible budget that helps prevent cuts and addresses federal threats to essential services. I am grateful to everyone who contributed to these efforts, guiding the County forward and stewarding the transition to our next Executive. Text to read: delivering on our 200 day plan. Thank you to the King County Council for taking action on the 2026-2027 biennial budget today. Passing a responsible, values-driven budget was a key part of my 200-Day Plan, and these investments protect critical services thousands of residents rely on. We are proud to have established a strong foundation to build from as new leadership continues work toward solutions to challenges caused by a long-term structural gap. This week, we’re celebrating the diverse roles of public servants across King County. That includes the courageous work and dedication of King County Sheriff’s Office deputies and staff, and our Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention colleagues. Here are just a few examples of how they serve our residents:

-KCSO’s Air Support Unit/Search & Rescue Team is world-class, with a mission to save lives. Get a glimpse of their work in the skies – and visit youtube.com/@kcsheriff to watch the whole video.
-In honor of National Police Woman Day, KIRO 7 showcased the contributions, courage, and resilience of a mother-daughter duo bringing their talents to the Sheriff’s office! KCSO is working to increase the number of women in the department by 30 percent by 2030, as part of the 30x30 initiative.
-Meet Team Tru – KCSO’s therapeutic response unit! They co-respond with deputies to provide support and match people with services they may need.

This week, we are celebrating the wide variety of ways King County’s departments support the 2.3 million community members we serve! Local public service is as essential as ever – and King County’s employees make it all possible.

This morning, we’re taking a look at just a couple roles played by the Department of Executive Services (DES), which runs everything from King County’s Fleet Services and Office of Emergency Management to Regional Animal Services of King County and the King County International Airport... and the Department of Local Services, which provides local government services to the people of unincorporated King County – ranging from roads and permitting to giving people a say in how its budget is spent!

✈️Meet Silvana Vasquez, an Airport Operations Specialist who is also training on her own time to become a pilot! She’s just one of the devoted employees who work to make sure King County International Airport is running safely and smoothly.
🤝 Many King County employees enjoy time off around the holidays – but others have to keep vital county services operating year-round. That includes Facilities Management Division security officers – a few pictured here -- who work together to keep county facilities safe.
Read full versions of the above stories & learn more at KingCountyDES.com !

🦺 King County code enforcement officers in the Department of Local Services have a challenging job to do – but Antonio Dorsey says he tries to do it with empathy, communication, and professionalism. Hear a little about his role – and how it’s all in service of safety.
🍃 Meet Katie Merrell – one of the Department of Local Services’ Road Services Environmental Engineers! She manages a grant-funded 6PPDQ heatmap project that will help decision-makers prioritize future water quality treatment locations and she provides environmental leadership on transportation projects. Her work includes protecting water quality and fostering salmon stewardship. Environmental preservation is a key priority in the work DLS does while serving the residents of King County! taken in King County by @kcexec

All week, we’re taking a look behind-the-scenes at the broad range of programs King County government offers for our 2.3 million residents. At King County Metro, that ranges from buses to the water taxi to the Vanpool program and more! Here are just a few examples of the public services Metro provides...

1. King County Metro’s operators keep the region running. This week we celebrated Jack Millman, Operator of the Year – recognized for his professionalism, care and consistent excellence. He received nearly 200 commendations from passengers!

2. King County Metro Facilities is now providing shelter cleaning for three eight-hour shifts per day. It’s just one way employees are ensuring riders have an inviting experience! Thank you to all of the professionals who keep things clean around-the-clock.

3. Transit Security Officers work to keep bus service safe – and we are so grateful for their service. In my budget, I proposed additional funding to continue and expand our behavioral health and ambassador programs – and make this year’s increased transit security and Metro Transit Police presence permanent.

Thank you to the over 5,900 King County colleagues who work to provide reliable service our riders can depend on! Photo of Jack Millman, 2024 Operator of the Year. taken in King County by @kcexec

🫶 King County’s new Crisis Care Centers will be a safe space for all people in crisis to seek help without judgment. Hear from one of our Strategic Planning Managers about how King County’s Department of Community and Human Services is working to ensure positive impacts in our community, during an interview with Converge Media.
📦Public Health helps community members access everything from car seats to lockboxes, makes sure paramedics have medical supplies, and ensures investigators have specimen collection kits. But someone has to keep all those supplies moving! Get a look inside our Public Health Warehouse. by @kcexec
