Recent book purchases. #booksagram #books

This book came highly recommend for business minded people. I’ve read several of these type of books and hoping this isn’t just a regurgitation of what I’ve already read.

Supposed to be an interesting and controversial psychoanalytical break down of the book of Job by Carl Jung. I’m looking forward to reading this just to see what all the fuss is about.

In my mind Cormac McCarthy = No Country for Old Men. All the Pretty Horses is the first of three in a series. If the story telling is anything like No Country For Old Men, this will be a great read.

Fear and Trembling is another break down of a Biblical story. The reviews I’ve heard say it’s really a deep dive into faith. I’ve always enjoyed books like this but like I’ve heard before, read many great books but live in the Bible. I like reading Psychoanalytical books based on events in the Bible, but they are never a substitute or an addition to the inspired Word.

I grew up watching the movie and have heard the book is absolutely phenomenal. This is a beast of a book in length but I’m really looking forward to dedicating the time to reading it.

A Native American in the 1920’s confesses to a priest that he murdered a bunch of buffalo hunters. The priest writes everything in a journal that is eventually discovered by his great great great grandchild in modern times. I’ve heard a ton of great reviews and it would also be accurate to say I bought this book based off of the cover.

It’s Ernest Hemingway. Enough said.

I recently read Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky which is a book that has stuck with me. Can’t wait to read another Dostoevsky. by @kckilpatrick

Summer reading

The Pilgrims Progress: "This hill, though high, I covet to ascend; The difficulty will not me offend.
For I perceive the way to life lies here."

The Screwtape Letters: "Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one, the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts."

The Alchemist: "The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times."

Outdoor Kids in an Inside World: "Fear prevents engagement; lack of engagement builds into a habit of avoidance; and pretty soon it’s just your family stuck inside four walls, where perhaps the biggest obstacle of all—technology—abounds."

Theo of Golden: "Do good, bestow kindness, strive for beauty, seek and find the river that leads to life everlasting, and draw from the fountain that never runs dry."

On the Shortness of Life: "It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much. ... The life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully."

On Character: "The lesson is that gardens don’t grow without committed effort, and communities are nothing more than recalcitrant gardens. In short, you harvest what you plant, water, feed, and protect. To invest in a community is a choice—a good one."

Meditations: "The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts."

Crime and Punishment: "Suffering and pain are always obligatory for a broad consciousness and a deep heart. Truly great men, I think, must feel great sorrow in this world."
