#KCMontero (@kcmontero) spent years not just introducing musicians, but also pushing them into the wider conversation and helping shape the pop culture zeitgeist. Connection has always been a constant in Montero’s life, and it’s in connection that he thinks OPM shines.

“We’ve been through a lot as a country. It comes out in our music,” says Montero. “Maybe if they don’t understand the language, it’s fine. We all have the same messages sometimes.”

Music, after all, is universal, and as he sees it, OPM has so much more room to grow as a genre of stories, feelings, and emotions. “Music is so much more discoverable and so easy to find. I’m hoping that they can discover more of our great OPM talents now.”

Before streaming services and social media platforms led the conversation on what the hottest songs and who the rising stars are, there was the era of music TV programs that served as the main source of news for listeners. It’s an era #KCMontero (@kcmontero) was once at the center of.

During the early 2000s, Montero was a go-to source for all things music as an MTV Philippines VJ. He helped introduce OPM to a generation, particularly through that era’s music videos that shaped the culture. While times have changed, the appeal of a good song and memorable artist remains, which Montero is ready to celebrate as one of this year’s hosts of the #FilipinoMusicAwards (@thefilipinomusicawards).

In MEGA’s October 2026 Digital Cover, KC Montero looks to OPM’s potential to reach even greater heights in the Philippines and beyond.

There have been a lot of sleepless nights building QwestLabs, powered by Kumu.

And honestly, I feel a huge responsibility to get this right.

During the pandemic, Kumu became so much more than an app. Millions of Filipinos connected through it, found community, and many were able to earn and help support themselves and their families during an incredibly difficult time.

I’ll always be proud of that.

Now the world is shifting again.

AI is changing the way we work, and understandably, there’s a lot of uncertainty about what that means for jobs and livelihoods.

With QwestLabs, we’re asking a pretty simple question:

How can Filipinos participate in the AI economy — and earn from it?

That’s what we’re building toward.

We’re early. We’re messy. We’re learning. We’re building as we go. And there are definitely more sleepless nights ahead.

Some kids will never know where I came from… or what MTV meant to so many of us.

I spent 12 years as an MTV VJ. Wild years, great memories, and a huge part of who I became.

What a night.

I genuinely had the best time hosting for @centurytunasuperbods -both tonight and the callback.

As a host you experience all types of events while most are fun; some are just special. This experience was that for me. Superbods has become staple in wellness in the Philippines. I salute them for continuing to be the driving force behind health and highlighting what it means to be beautiful, healthy and well inside and out.
