Meet Cameron 🖤

My mom always wanted a kitten. Growing up, we had Sam, who showed up one day and never left. And then years later came Oliver, from a Black Friday Black Cat day sale. But both were already grown when we found them.

This past May, a friend called to say they had found a tiny month-old kitten in their backyard. My mom immediately decided it was meant to be. Everyone told her it probably wasn’t the right time to take on a kitten, but her response was simple. “I can do whatever I want.” And yes that is true.

A few hours later, she came back with a little black kitten she named Cameron. First, he was “girl Cameron.” Two weeks later, after a trip to the vet, he became “boy Cameron.” A sweet and rambunctious spark of joy.

About a month after bringing Cameron home, my mom’s health rapidly declined and she passed away.

Over the past couple years, friends have asked me if I wanted a pet. My answer was always, when the time was right, one would find me. I didn’t think I was ready for a pet but now that I have Cameron, he’s filled spaces in my life I didn’t realize needed filled. My mom knew exactly what I would need before I did. I guess a mother always knows best. All cliche but true.

Cameron acts like a dog and will steal dog food. He chirps to birds. Loves hanging out in sinks and playing in water. He’s a good boy. by @kcve__

This past June, I lost my beautiful mother. She was the brightest light in any room. A firecracker. She had the most playful spirit and brought joy everywhere she went.

A true warrior in so many ways. She battled cancer for 17 years and defied every expectation. Always positive. Seeing the bright side of things, and inspiring those around her.

I moved to Austin, Texas!

New York. You’ll always be a home to me. I’ll still be around a few times a year but it is time to explore somewhere new. I’ve been craving big open skies and space. Austin took me by surprise and wow, it has hit the spot.
