This meme says a lot, yet some will still insist that “illegal immigration is the real worry.”

People living in this country unlawfully are already barred from receiving Social Security benefits. Lawfully present immigrants must meet the eligibility requirements to qualify. No amount of MAGA fearmongering changes those facts.

Demand that Congress protect the benefits you’ve earned, and stop letting politicians use immigrants as a distraction from their own responsibility. by @kdiddyyo

The Big Old Orange Shame

Once upon a time, a big old orange shame appeared at the edge of a village and declared that only he knew the way through the forest.

The villagers had lived beside that forest all their lives, but he spoke so loudly and so often that some began to doubt their own eyes. These became his enchanted followers.

“Are you quite sure this is the path?” asked a little girl as they passed the same crooked tree for the third time.

“Nobody knows paths better than I do,” said the big old orange shame.

Soon they came upon a cottage with smoke pouring from its chimney. A witch stood at the door, smiling beside an open oven.

“Is this the way out?” asked the little girl.

“The best way out,” he said. “Beautiful oven. Everyone says so.”

The little girl turned around and walked home. A few villagers followed her. The rest stood waiting for the big old orange shame to tell them why the oven was good for them.

With accusations of criminal immigration flying around Like flies On 💩

. Two commonly confused points:

* Crossing the border improperly can be criminal; simply remaining after lawful entry normally is not. As in entry outside normal ports Of Entry

* Requesting asylum is not itself a crime. Federal law permits someone physically present in the United States to apply regardless of immigration status, although a separate improper-entry offense may still be alleged.

There are more but this what people seem. get hung up on.

So when someone says, “Every undocumented immigrant is a criminal,” that is legally false. Someone can be removable under civil immigration law without ever having committed a crime. by @kdiddyyo

Apparently, sunscreen has now joined vaccines, fluoride, and pasteurized milk on the ever-growing list of things some Americans have decided are secretly trying to kill them.

The current anti-sunscreen nonsense seems to be driven mostly by social-media influencers taking a grain of legitimate scientific uncertainty and turning it into a whole conspiracy bakery.

Yes, some sunscreen ingredients can be absorbed into the bloodstream. That does NOT mean they’ve been proven dangerous. Meanwhile, UV radiation absolutely is proven to damage DNA, accelerate skin aging, and increase the risk of skin cancer.

Don’t trust “chemical” sunscreen? Fine. Use zinc oxide. Wear a hat. Cover up. Sit in the shade. There are plenty of options besides deliberately marinating yourself in ultraviolet radiation.

But here’s the one small mercy:

At least this particular flavor of anti-science stupidity isn’t quite like refusing vaccination.

If you choose not to use sunscreen, for the most part, you’re only increasing the risk to yourself.
