NENE ROYAL. Wow, just...wow. Watched a couple of the many videos floating around YouTube of Nene's Singapore concert today. She opened for A7X and did awesome; great crowd response. BUT... then A7X brought her out on stage to play 2 songs with them. With A7X! No rehearsal whatsoever and she absolutely killed and crushed it with the guitar AND lead vocals. How is she even human with all this talent stuffed in a 16 yo body??? by @kdvanbrunt

“Recommended” – The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books: FIGHT SONG “offers readers a compelling page-turner featuring a tough-as-nails protagonist who has endured unimaginable hardship but keeps on going through sheer determination. While Nokes has help through her situation, she is the ultimate hero of her story, and her first-person narration rings with authenticity as she follows her passion for her sport.” by @kdvanbrunt

A story about chasing your dreams, surviving the things you never should have had to, and finding the strength to keep going. 🏒💛

Fight Song by Kirk Van Brunt follows Nokes Lasley, an Indigenous girl whose dream of playing Olympic hockey gives her something to hold on to when life gets difficult. Told through two timelines, the story slowly unravels what happened in between, keeping you curious about Nokes and the choices she makes.

Beyond the hockey, this is a story about resilience, identity, family, and the search for belonging. Nokes' journey reminds us that sometimes, simply refusing to give up takes an incredible amount of courage. ❤️

Please check the trigger warnings before reading, as this book deals with abuse and other heavy topics.

💌 QOTD: Which fictional character has faced so much but continues to fight for the life they deserve?

I want to know who your favourite never-give-up characters are! ❤️📚

Just out, Publishers Weekly Review of FIGHT SONG: “Brisk pacing and approachable depictions of hockey, particularly game sequences, elevate tension throughout this thrilling tale, and Nokes proves an appealing heroine whose resilience and vulnerability make her increasingly endearing. This relatable story of adolescence boasts plenty of excitement.” by @kdvanbrunt

Nopika or Nokes as we know her for most of the story did not have an easy life and her journey keeps on getting more complex as we find out more about her past.

From her ambitions to make it in the Olympics by playing hockey there is so much more to Nokes who is running away from the system after her father ended up making a mistake which would affect them forever.

However after trying to look up an old friend of her father Nokes finds Aidan instead who quickly becomes her go to person in solving any problems she finds navigating her way to reaching her dream of playing in the Olympics

This book has a deep story and as the book nears the end the dark secrets of what Nokes is really running from come out and if you don’t want to hug this girl by the end of the book we haven’t read the same book
