Today comes with a heavy heart as I had to say my final goodbye to my Grandma. She lived a long, adventurous, fulfilled life. From taking me to the movies and sneaking in candy as a kid, spending the night and going to our favorite diner for breakfast, to supporting me throughout my basketball career; her presence was always comforting and warm. She always found a way to make you smile and laugh when you needed it most. Her advice, love, and encouragement were always just a simple visit or phone call away. However, when it came time to play cards or dominoes, that’s when her competitiveness came out. No win came easy against her, especially when we played “house rules” or she kept score.

Although this has been a very hard time for my family and I, we go on reassured that she is at peace, pain free, and reunited with loved ones. We focus on celebrating her life, accomplishments, and relish in happy memories…for that’s what she would want us to do. The love she had for lighthouses was a true reflection of who she was as a person. A bright light in not only my life, but all of those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her. She may no longer be across from me on the sidelines cheering me on, but I find strength in knowing she has a front row seat up above in Heaven. Her love will forever be felt and I know she will be watching over me from afar supporting one of her favorite basketball coaches! I’ll continue to make you proud and am determined to reach all of my future goals that we talked about.

G, I am so thankful that I got to be by your side as you took your last breath. You fought so hard until your family was home together again before you started your next journey. Now you can rest. I was honored to be a pallbearer today, carrying you to your final resting place. You were a blessing to many, but an even more amazing Grandma. Fly high, beautiful angel. You deserve it.

Thank you for everything.
The Dunbar legacy lives on.
I love you more.
