🎓🍎 Junior Field Experience is officially underway! We are honored and excited to launch the College of Education’s Junior Field Experience through the Office of Student Placement and Clinical Experiences! This fall, 10 sections-five on the Union campus and five on the Ocean campus-are providing our junior-level teacher candidates with meaningful opportunities to experience teaching and learning firsthand. Through classroom observations, small-group instruction, individualized support, and co-teaching, our students are connecting their university coursework to real-world classroom experiences. 📚We are especially grateful to Dr. Sasha Slocum and Dr. Justin Fiory, principals in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District, for welcoming our teacher candidates and creating meaningful school-based mentorship opportunities. Thank you to all of our district partners and dedicated educators who help prepare the next generation of teachers! The journey from teacher candidate to teacher begins in the classroom. @skgrayedd #KeanUniversity #KeanCOE #CollegeOfEducation #TeacherCandidates FutureTeachers JuniorFieldExperience TeacherEducation ClinicalExperience by @keancoe

🌊🏄‍♂️ Camp Abilities Kean Surf Day was one for the books! There is nothing better than watching our athletes step outside their comfort zones, try something new, and experience the joy and freedom of being in the water. From catching waves to cheering each other on, the confidence, courage, and smiles were unmatched. A huge thank you to everyone who made this day possible — our amazing volunteers, coaches, partners, and supporters who continue to create inclusive opportunities for youth with visual impairments to be active, adventurous, and empowered. A special thank you to @keanuniversity for continuing to support Camp Abilities Kean and providing opportunities for our athletes, students, and community to come together through inclusive sport and recreation. We are incredibly grateful to our partners at @hammersurfschool for helping bring this experience to life and creating an inclusive, supportive environment where our athletes could experience the thrill of surfing and the confidence that comes with trying something new. 🎓✨ Successful Substitute Teaching Workshop at Kean! On June 10, the Office of Teacher Certification and Alternate Route Programs hosted another impactful Substitute Teaching Workshop, providing aspiring educators with valuable guidance on the substitute certification process, application requirements, fingerprinting and criminal background checks, and key steps toward becoming a substitute teacher in New Jersey. We are incredibly grateful to our educational partners who helped make this event a success. Representatives from Westfield Public Schools, Scotch Plains–Fanwood Public Schools, Union Public Schools, Union County Vocational-Technical Schools, and New Providence Public Schools shared meaningful insights and opportunities with attendees, offering a firsthand look at the needs of local districts and the rewards of the profession. This workshop was proudly conducted in partnership with the Union County Certification Office under the leadership of Kristen Elenis. We sincerely appreciate the collaboration and expertise that contributed to such a successful event. A very special thank you to our dedicated planning team: Dr. Meredith Riddle, Director Sonia Irizarry, Ashley Vazquez, Dr. Jea Lizz Noonan, Vicel Valenzuela, Justin Hunte, and Reka Sekaleris.
