Art Advising for the Aspiring and Seasoned Art Collector
Washington, D.C. and Beyond

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A collection of new artists I discovered in September at the Armory.
Beyond being visually compelling, the stories and details behind the process of creating the works adds to the depth of the pieces. Learning more about the artist and the "why" behind an artwork often creates a deeper connection to the work.
Whenever possible...talk to the artist or talk to the gallery staff about the artwork!

Still thinking about these pieces from the Armory Show in September.

Art fairs are a great way to:
-Discover new artists
-Discover new galleries
-See artwork in person by artists I have been tracking
-Speak with gallerists I already know and meeting new ones

Artists and galleries are tagged.

I recently saw the Alberto Giacometti exhibit at the @metmuseum and it reminded me that looking at art helps me see art happening all around. Part of honing your eye is looking at lots of art so you start to see more...in life. Read more about how to expand upon your art looking this September, see the blog (link in bio) and sign up to receive the newsletter.

Some of my favorites from the opening night of @femmeartfair

In order:
Slide 2-4 works by @anniebroderickart -if you see nothing else, at least see her colossal sculpture that looks like it feel from the ceiling (in a very good way!)
Slide 6 work by @carinatenagliaart - the variations on green and the texture draw you in and keep you there for while
Slide 7 work by @maryearly - this photo doesn't do this work justice - beeswax dripped sculpture

Exploring Jyll Bradley's Portal (for Silver Eel Cove) at Fishers Island.

@tothelighthouseworks is a year-round, six week-long artist fellowship program at Fishers Island. Other amazing visual artists like @tommykha and @marymattingly have been part of the fellowship program. Excited to hear more about this piece on Sat, Aug 22 at 6pm at the artist reception and conversation.

If I Were In Florence, Italy...I would be spending a great deal of time at the Rothko In Florence exhibit at Palazzo Strozzi, San Marco Museum. Closes Aug 23. Mixing old and new(ish) has always appealed to me in art and life because history informs the present and art inform art.

A few favorites from NADA last week. This fair was particularly good this year, especially if you go three times. My goal at a fair is to discover new artists, see an artist’s work in real life that I have admired online, to find new galleries and to meet the gallerists in person.

Slide 4: finally seeing IRL artist @johnzabawa at @francisgallery

One of the many highlights from a week of art in NYC - A guided presentation of @fireleibaez new paintings, works on paper and sculpture at the 22nd Street location of @hauserwirth. This was a take my breath away moment.
