Some more good (and unfortunate) things from our Yosemite trip. My mom and sis came to this trip, this (I think) is our first time officially camping together, and their first time in Yosemite. Although we were very excited, we had to say goodbye to our beloved family Expedition that my mom and dad bought new in 1997 shortly after my sister was born.
-
We were about 2 and 1/2 hours away from Yosemite when we noticed a massive transmission fluid leak…it was spewing on the exhaust manifold and was smoking like crazy. Had to get it towed back to Fresno and get a rental car, transport all the camping gear and the dogs…it was kind of a nightmare. We’re pretty sure the transmission is blown.

As you can see, even though it was a bad experience, we were able to make light of it and keep a calm temperament and sense of humor through the whole ordeal, a family blessing…or perhaps even a family asset that allows us to ward off the doom-think that inevitably follows the human condition at times.

Also, my moms mini poodle - Emerson - decided to slip out of his harness and run around all of Yosemite valley trying to find her, and we had to get search and rescue, all the park rangers and a wildlife crew involved to try and catch him. He was so freaked out from his first camping experience that he wouldn’t even come when my mom called him, and was running away from everybody. Finally, I saw him running and I kinda had to herd him back to our campsite. My mom left her car door open earlier in hopes he would find his way into his little bed on the backseat, and he jumped right in there. In total, he was “missing” (in quotes because we saw him a bunch of times, just couldn’t catch him) for about 5 hours.

David’s black lab, Chloe is pictured in the last video. She is currently 15 years old and still yells at everyone to throw her toy in the river so she can jump in and fetch, what an absolute miracle and blessing to have her for this long in such good health. Also, David has her on a strict diet and regimental exercise to make sure she stays in tip-top shape. We hiked to Cloud’s Rest in Yosemite over the weekend…the longest and hardest single day hike I’ve ever done. AllTrails says 18.2 miles from Yosemite Valley….don’t believe it lol, even the signs say 21 miles, we learned the hard way. Pretty awesome way to train for Mt. Whitney which is coming up in a couple months.

If you ever doubt yourself, ever have trouble completing tasks or prioritizing things….I highly suggest you climb a mountain. You should start with a small hill and work your way up if needed, but I’m a firm believer that accomplishing things like this re-wires your brain chemistry to make most other tasks seem easy.
