curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hello it’s been a minute. I’d only really wanted to delete my Instagram for a few weeks in August but here we are. I never wanted to post a lot of projects I was working on because sometimes it can seem like those posts are just content for the sake of having content and I never wanted to contribute to that or make myself seem more productive or creative than I really am. But over time I just stopped posting anything I make and not sharing any of the art or books or projects I spend a majority of my time on is also a form of dishonesty. So I’m redownloading it to try to bridge the two in what’s hopefully a more realistic way. by @keeleyswami

Just sifting through the magnitude of human suffering in the separated families at the border is emotionally traumatizing but I just happened upon a story of a little 10 year old Down Syndrome girl who was separated from her mom and brother and forced into a cage like an abused animal and it enrages me like nothing has before it. I grew up with a sweet, innocent, and deeply vulnerable Down Syndrome sister and to imagine her abused like that made me cry, hard. I doubt many of you have seen the terror and panic in a disabled child's eyes when she knows she's about to die or lose her family but it's a scarring memory I will have seared into my mind forever. Genuinely the worst moment in my life. That these ICE officers could see this and go home to their families and sleep at night, just to get up the next morning and terrorize more children is humanity at its most despicable. Many people say that Nazi soldiers were just soldiers serving their country and doing their job but make no mistake, you have a choice. If you have the ability to separate any child from their mother and father and make them vulnerable to abuse (often at the hands of the same officers), you've lost your humanity. It won't surprise anyone who knows me to hear I started crying when I saw this many rare species in one place. Happy lil plants, safe from the imminent destruction of their natural habitats (and look at those hairy leaves!!!) taken in The Spheres by @keeleyswami

Let me tell you, seeing yourself in print is something else. Especially when no one really tells you what's up and you expect it to be 3ish pages and a couple photos. But no- there we are, the first 16 pages of the magazine. So if you ever wanted to hear any thoughts Shu or I have, you could get one (and support a down to earth, creative magazine) @h_mancondition (links there and in mine) I don't often share stuff like this but I've been surprised by the number of people telling me the interview resonates with them, enough for me to see my words have some value (Shu's words always do). To see myself along side Shu and other hard working, talented artists is humbling, thank you for that @h_mancondition by @keeleyswami
