This is the last of the three New Road Sessions, featuring “Almost” from my debut album Dollars into Dimes.

The album is largely about finding contentment and learning to find peace in the things that truly matter. “Almost” is a good example of that idea, the feeling of constantly being almost where you want to be, but never quite there, can be exhausting.

On the surface, the song may sound painful, but to me it feels more like a warm blanket wrapped around that familiar sense of dissatisfaction we all carry from time to time. There’s something peaceful in the melody that brings me a sense of calm, even though the story behind it is about longing for something being just out of reach in a periode in time.

It was a beautiful session with @keenanschuck , and I would genuinely recommend these sessions to any artist looking for a great place to capture their music in a special way.

Thank you, @newroadsessions , for having me. And good luck with all the sessions to come.

Some new adventures in the way! by @keenanschuck

A couple weeks ago guru @official_waylon_music sent me this live video of @thetimejumpersband doing a heart wrenching rendition of this song, together with Dawn Sears, @vincegillofficial and @paulfranklinc6th. Had to figure it out, not there yet but close enough for now. This is why Paul’s the 🐐

When I traveled to Sweden in December to record my debut album at @ruben.vandervelde beautiful studio, Dollars into Dimes, I suddenly found myself in urgent need of a pedal steel player.

I’d been following @keenanschuck on social media for quite some time, and I remember thinking:

“Why not just send him a message?”

So I did.

“Hey Keenan, I’m in Sweden recording my album. Is there any chance you could write, create, and record all the pedal steel parts for the entire record within just a few days… and send everything back to me before next week? We’re mixing the album then, so it all has to be finished. ”

Needless to say, it was a huge ask.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that I had reached out to exactly the right person for the job.

Just three days later, every single track had been recorded and neatly uploaded to my Dropbox.

These days, Keenan is touring with Waylon, among others—and for good reason.

The reason I wanted to play this song during the @newroadsessions was simple: I knew Keenan would be there, and I truly believe his playing shines brightest on Count on You, one of the songs from Dollars into Dimes.

Thank you, Keenan, for your incredible musicianship and for adding so much heart and soul to this record. by @keenanschuck

Wasn’t able to see @reddvolkaert when he played over here a couple weeks ago, so here’s some swing to make up for it! The first half is Buddy’s solo off of this version by @willienelsonofficial, followed by some of my own ideas. Keep swingin’!
