✨Ringing in the New Year w. Sparkle & Light!🎆✨ Sharing my small but mighty Vauxhall glass collection. Popular in the 18th & 19th centuries, this colorful, mirror-backed glass jewelry was originally produced by Vauxhall Glassworks in London and sold as souvenirs in Vauxhall Gardens, hence the name. Though old, the colors are still vivid and shine so bright. Perfect for setting positive aspirations and hopes for 2026!🙏✨

In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, sharing this stunning Flamand Josephine Baker “ZouZou” compact bracelet, named for Baker when she starred in the 1934 movie ZouZou! 🎥

You may know her as an iconic fashion, music, and dance superstar. Did you know she was also a spy and war hero? Baker was awarded the Resistance Medal, the Croix de Guerre by the French military, and named a Chevalier of the Légion of Honor by General Charles de Gaulle! 🇫🇷

Baker was also a strong civil rights advocate, and one of the few women allowed to speak at the March on Washington in 1963.💪🏻

🦇🖤Creepy 🦇🌙 - I love anything dark, mysterious, and macabre, and that includes the things that slither, crawl and creep in the night! So for our final theme hosted by @the_phoenix_room , I want to share a beautiful jewel for a creature who is often reviled for creepiness, but misunderstood. Today in the US, bats are associated with disease and darkness. But in throughout history, many cultures have celebrated bats as symbols of intuition, rebirth, family, eternity, protection, even happiness and good fortune. And they eat mosquitos, so good in my book!🦇✨

This little bat brooch is circa 1900, so came right at the transition from bats as gothic symbols of protection and eternity, to more positive art nouveau feelings of luck and good future. And it was flagged to me by @divinationanddiamonds so extra meaningful. A Night On Bald Mt from Fantasia, is about the biggest winged creatures of the night and seems fitting!🖤🦇✨

💀🖤Mourning Rites 🖤💀✨ Is the #jewelseance theme hosted by @madamebrocante . By the early 1700’s, memento mori jewels had transitioned from reminders for the living, to more personalized symbols of mourning. Engraved JNo (John) Lort: AR, died April 1739, age 60, these rings were given by the deceased to friends & family as tokens of remembrance. If you look closely you can see the tiny Momento Mori skull under rock crystal. 💀✨

💀🖤Momento Mori🖤🥀 Comes from the Latin, “remember you must die,” and from the 16th-18th century became a motto in jewelry of mortality and remembrance. By the 19th century, these momentos became much more personalized, and were given by the deceased as tokens. Flowers on the grave came to represent sympathy, love, and respect for the deceased, w. dark crimson representing deep sorrow and grief. And these symbols came to be incorporates in other traditional mourning rites such as Dia de los Muertos. 💀🖤🥀

✨🌕Full Moon🌕🌒✨ Is today’s #jewelseance theme hosted by @anadej.jewellery , and I would be remiss if I didn’t post about my namesake… Cynthia, is Ancient Greek for goddess of the moon, and is another name for Artemis, goddess of the hunt and moon, who was born on Mount Cynthus on Delos. She is often depicted with the moon and stars in her hair, and compared to the beauty of the night, as in this Ben Jonson rhyme from 1601 - Earth, let not an envious shade dare itself to interpose; Cynthia’s shining orb was made, heaven to clear when day did close. Bless us then with wishèd sight, Goddess, excellently bright.

🕷️🖤Exorcism🖤🕷️🕸️ is today’s #jewelseance theme hosted by the enchanting @divinationanddiamonds In many cultures spiders and spider webs are associated with the spirit world, magic, and divination, both for good and evil. For example, in Aztec history, Tezcatlipoca is the demon god, prince of the Underworld and sorcerer who enters the underworld by climbing down a large spiderweb. He and his siblings, the tzitzimime, are represented by spiders and thought to ascend/descend to earth via supernatural spiders’ webs to attack and possess humans in the night! By contrast, in ancient Greece, Rome and many other cultures, spiderwebs were used for healing, protection, and to cast off evil. I am so enamored of this Edwardian magic spider ring, and I choose to believe it falls in the later category, or at least I hope so! 🕯️🖤🕸️🕷️
