Reece has been loving his time recently as a volunteer dog with the clinical skills program at OVC. After the service dog world was out of the picture for Reece, I was trying to think of a way that Reece could still pursue his love for helping people. With his new part time volunteer role, he serves as a patient that vet school students can practice their physical exam skills and other clinical techniques. Reece enjoys it because he gets his social time with the students, he gets to come back to campus again with me, and he gets unlimited pets (due to palpation during exams)! Canā€™t wait for him to continue to help me and other vet students succeed!! by @keepingupwithreece
Had so much fun attending the dog promenade in Guelph this weekend with Reece. It was awesome to have the chance to hang out with other dogs and dog owners in the community. Reece had a fantastic day: meeting some new dog friends (and many more human friends), getting treats from all the vendors, trying out a kiddie pool, and also had the chance to do his first ever agility course (which he was so brave and enjoyed a lot!). Canā€™t wait to go again next year! by @keepingupwithreece
When people ask whatā€™s his name, but thatā€™s the least interesting thing about him. Heā€™s so much more #labsofinstagram #labradorretriever by @keepingupwithreece
Welcome home Reece! When I decided to raise a service dog in 2024, I never imagined that the tiny 8-week-old puppy I brought home would one day become my own. But life had a different plan for us. Reece was almost finished advanced service dog training when he was medically released from the program due to a medical condition that makes him unfit for service work. He was so close to finishing his training and beginning the life he had been working toward, which made the news especially heartbreaking to hear after everything we accomplished together and his love for working. From the very beginning, I knew Reece was something special. He was destined to change someoneā€™s life. Reece has always had this incredible way of making everyone around him smile and leaving a little piece of himself with everyone he meets. When he left for advanced training, I knew how proud I was of him, but I donā€™t think I realized just how much I would miss him. He took a little piece of my heart with him, and I never stopped wondering about him and hoping that one day our paths would cross again. His journey to becoming a service dog may not have turned out the way we had planned, but I couldnā€™t be more grateful to have the privilege of calling him mine and giving him the best VIP life possible! Reece was meant to make a difference in someoneā€™s life and in the end, he came back to make a difference in mine. I canā€™t wait for all the adventures, memories, cuddles, and endless spoiling that are ahead of us. Welcome home, Reeceā€™s Pieces. I canā€™t believe youā€™re here to stay! by @keepingupwithreece
Ads_Luigi and Ads_Reece had fun meeting everyone last night at SpinCo Waterloo! Puppy kisses and hugs weā€™re enjoying by many! Thank you @spincowaterloo for having us, and thank you to your amazing fundraising organizers! It was so lovely to meet you all! šŸ•ā€šŸ¦ŗā¤ļø by @keepingupwithreece
Always the best time when Reece comes to visit. Spent the week at school and cafes studying, did a lot of trail walks and unstructured walk practice, attended a hockey game, lots of cuddling sessions, as well as attended the OTS Dog Jog. Reece did incredible this week! Keep it up in advanced training little man by @keepingupwithreece
This man just rocked an extremely large event that I helped coordinate at the Ontario veterinary college. With over 350 guests, Reece was able to navigate hallways packed with people, attend 7 lectures, navigate the cafeteria filled with smells of pizza and desserts, oversee the silent auction room (which you can see a photo of him doing a very good job atšŸ˜Š), and greeting some very lovely people. My class (@wisteriawolves2029) has really missed having Reece around, so it was great to have him back at school for a little while! This boy amazes me every single day with his calming nature and good skills! The amount of conversations I was able to have today about @autismdogservices training program was incredible, as well as receiving numerous compliments from the guests attending the event. Keep it up Reece! by @keepingupwithreece
Oh Reece, my best friend in this world,ā€Øthis was the hardest decision I have ever had to make letting you go early, but this decision is whatā€™s best for the two of us. It is my time to let you go so that I can focus on vet school and continue to learn to take care of animals like you and Reece it is your time to continue to focus on improving your skills and working towards your goal of becoming a service dog! Iā€™m so proud of the dog youā€™ve become. Raising you has been the journey of a lifetime. You were my first puppy in training, and through our training together over the past 13 months we built a bond Iā€™ll never forget. You immediately stole my heart, and have changed my life in ways I didnā€™t even know were possible, and It is now your turn to go and continue to learn how to do so for someone else who needs you more than I do. Life will be quieter and quite strange for a while without my little shadow tagging along with me to school, on errands, and hanging out on weekends. But from the very beginning, I knew you werenā€™t mine to keep, but that sure doesnā€™t make this any easier. People often ask, ā€œHow can you let him go?ā€ And my answer is always: because Reece is meant for more in this lifetime. His heart is too big not to share with someone else. Go shine little man with your finishing raiser. I will always be your biggest cheerleader no matter where you end up. I am so proud of the progress we have made together over the past 13 months! You are the smartest dog I have ever met. You have made me so proud in everything you have accomplished. Youā€™re going to change someoneā€™s world just like you changed mine.ā€ØI love you forever my Reeceā€™s pieces. ā¤ļø I hope our paths cross soon! by @keepingupwithreece
Reece and I had such a fun weekend together. We did lots of trail walks and got to hang out with his puppy friends @ads_boomer @ads_.raven @ads__red. We also attended an antique market where Reece got to practice a lot of heeling and focus with many other dogs around! He did very well! We then had a unique opportunity to go to the Guelph airport and Reece got to watch planes take off and land from very close to the runway while I got to go up in a plane! He was so calm and the loud noises didnā€™t startle him at all! Good work buddy! by @keepingupwithreece
Reece and I had the pleasure to join some other ADS pups in training on a group outing to watch an Anne of Green Gables play. If you ask Reece he would say he has no idea what the play was about as he slept 90% of it! It was great to get some practice settling around a bunch of other dogs. At intermission Reece was approached by a teen with autism who was quite anxious and overstimulated by the play. Reece very nicely assumed a position between the teens legs and she cuddled and pet him for the remainder of the intermission. It was almost like Reece knew exactly what to do to calm this girl down. He was such a calming presence for the young teen. Was such a heart touching moment! by @keepingupwithreece
Reece has officially been tagging along with me to vet school for a whole month!! With having lectures an average of 8 hours per day, this little trooper settles so well each class with rarely a single complaint, does incredible seated and down greetings with my animal loving classmates (Reece is everyoneā€™s favourite classmate), and very much enjoys his free time rolling around in the grass and walks on campus over lunch hour. Aside from school we have also managed to sneak in some campus training with @ads_.raven, many arboretum/other trail walks in the mornings before classes, some occasional grocery store and mall runs, and mastering the art of settling with a doggy roommate. Thank you to his amazing sitter @mikayla_taite for assisting me on my long lab days that Reece canā€™t come to school. Iā€™m proud of you Reece for putting up with my busy school schedule and still having such great focus on me, a smile always on your face, and a desire to impress me daily! by @keepingupwithreece
The ADS STEPtember challenge has come to an end. With completing 408,000 steps and 314km this month, Reece and I have had an absolute blast. I wanted to thank everyone who donated to this incredible organization. by @keepingupwithreece
