These Masked Artists Are Behind Some of OKC’s Most Recognizable Murals 🎨
———————————————————————————-
Meet the Holey Kids (@holeykids) - a masked artist duo from Oklahoma City redefining what collaboration looks like in contemporary art (and making it really fun to look at). Known as Mother Holey and Father Holey, they’re best know for their bold, large-scale abstract murals and immersive works that blur the line between individual expression and collective creativity. In this episode, we spend time with the duo to learn more about their art, their process, and what happens when two people commit to making everything together.

What started as a zine that came out of the local music scene has evolved into a 16-year creative partnership spanning murals, paintings, installations, publications, and more. Grounded in abstract forms and color, their work is intentionally open-ended - inviting anyone who encounters it to bring their own meaning along for the ride. You’ve likely seen their murals brightening spaces across Oklahoma, including OKC’s Plaza Walls, the Kerr Park Pavilion, and Warby Parker at Center 1 in Tulsa. Now, their work is also the featured artwork for the brand new 2026 Keep It Local Rewards Card.

Watch to hear their story, dig into their collaborative process, and see how The Holey Kids continue to breathe new life into overlooked spaces, proving that art is better (and more interesting) when it’s made together.

Cap City Coffee will be throwing open their doors in OKC’s Uptown 23rd District for the very first time from 8am to 3pm on Saturday, October 17th, with all your favorite espresso drinks, matcha, loose leaf tea, and sweet treats from Cakes by Carlye on the menu.

Spend $10 or more on opening day and you could take home an exclusive grand opening t-shirt, but you better plan ahead because only the first 150 guests will get one.

Learning Tree Toys, Books & Games is an Oklahoma City toy store that has brought joy to kids and helped families find developmentally appropriate toys since 1985. Meet co-owner Patti Tepper-Rasmussen in the newest episode of Oklahoma Originals. 🧸🎲📚
——————————————————————————
What if a toy store was designed around how kids actually learn and grow, not just whatever happens to be popular on TV? That’s the idea behind Learning Tree (@learningtree.okc), a locally owned Oklahoma City business.

Patti opened Learning Tree in 1985 with her business partner, Kathy Carey. The two ran the store together for 18 years, until Kathy’s passing, and Patti has continued to run the store as sole owner for the past 23 years. What began with toys from 25 companies has grown into a 2,800-square-foot store featuring products from more than 450 manufacturers around the world. Patti and her team choose every toy, book, and game based on developmental milestones rather than commercial trends, so families can find something that sparks creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving. The store is organized by age and stage, and it carries games and puzzles for all ages, because play shouldn’t have an expiration date.

Watch to hear how Learning Tree grew from a small toy shop into an Oklahoma City institution.

We stopped by the $2K Cookie Contest hosted by @twistedtreebakingcompany over the weekend, where @sugarcrumbz_by_zoemarwedel took home the grand prize for her Chocolate Snickerdoodle with chocolate ganache drizzle. 🍪🏆😋

Was it difficult to eat our way through a room full of cookies from some of the best bakers & chefs in town? Not particularly.

Would we do it again? Absolutely. taken in Edmond, Oklahoma by @keepitlocalok

There are plenty of places to grab coffee in Tulsa, but Chimera has been serving all-day breakfast tacos, seriously good coffee, and plenty of vegan options that locals have loved since 2013.

The coffee is roasted in-house, the juices are fresh, and the breakfast tacos are served all day, which means you can order a “Disappearer” with bacon, eggs, cheddar jack, and chipotle crema or the vegan “Teenage Riot” whenever the craving hits.

Add in their matcha, fresh-baked pastries, craft beer, wine, cocktails, and a rotating lineup of after-hours events, and Chimera pretty much has you covered no matter what kind of day you’re having.

Swipe ➡️ to take a closer look at one of the city’s longtime favorites in the Tulsa Arts District.

At Tucker’s, the Oklahoma onion burger isn’t just on the menu - it’s the whole point. 🍔 Premium ground beef smashed with a pile of onions until everything gets crispy, caramelized, and beautifully messy. Add some fresh-cut fries and a shake (or strawberry limeade), you’ve got yourself a pretty perfect Oklahoma meal.
