Meet the characters of “Ravana Pathanam: A Mind Unravels,” Sundari Dance Theater’s original Kuchipudi dance theater production, premiering Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Annandale, VA.

Tickets available at www.sundaridancetheater.org

#kuchipudi #drama #dance #ravana

Meet Mandodari, the Chief Queen Consort of Ravana. She is a radiant beauty with a sharp intellect and a deep ethical grounding. Fiercely supportive of her husband, Mandodari believes it is her role to steer him toward righteousness. Especially when his passions lead him down a path of destruction.

Performed by Chitra Kalyandurg

Meet Soorpanakha, Ravana’s sister. Scarred, aggrieved, and tenacious, she is fed up with being ignored and victimized by those in power. Taking matters into her own hands, what she reveals to her brother sets the story in motion, and seals his fate.

Performed by Lakshmi Maneesha Mellacheruvu

Meet Sita. Abducted to Lanka by Ravana, the Princess Sita finds herself frightened and alone, imprisoned in the Ashoka forest. Will Rama come to her rescue? Will she be able to ward off the powerful Ravana’s advances? How far will her courage, her fierce resistance, take her?

Performed by Kavya Smrithi Adabala

Meet Hanuman, the charmingly loyal friend and supporter of Rama who arrives in Lanka in search of Sita. The ornate and imposing city, and its ruler, Ravana, are both magnificent at first sight, but evoke a cold darkness upon further exploration. Poor Sita, to be alone here! Can he find her and gain her trust? Perhaps he should give Lanka a little taste of what it is up against?

Performed by Keerthana Adapa

Meet Ravana, the ten-headed Demon King of Lanka. He’s a brilliant scholar, master musician, and fearless warrior…but he has a fatal flaw: he is ruled by his own tempers.

What leads a ruler of unsurpassed power to travel to a faraway forest and kidnap the Princess Sita? Why is it, despite the voices of reason around him, he is unable to reverse that decision? How is it, that the mighty fall?

Performed by Srilekha Jayanthi by @keerdance

trying to post more progress videos that aren’t perfect. went to this class yesterday and wanted to focus on the small details and techniques, but ended up getting lost with the choreo 🙈 on the BRIGHT SIDE energy in class was amazing and I learnt alot while simultaneously struggling 🤠

I went to this incredible 3 day intensive with @ishitamili two weeks ago and I still think about it every day since. It was truly one of the best dance experiences in my time in this city. I’m so grateful for this weekend and the opportunity we had to take risks, step outside my comfort zone AND so so lucky to learn from such a powerful and nuanced dancer ❤️

this is a story of seed blossoming into a fully grown flower and all obstacles it faces 🌷
