In the face of the storm, we reveal what we can’t let go🌊 A chest of meaning, a cry of defiance, and the strength to weather it all.

A sneak peak into the first painting of 2025!

How much between here and history
Acrylic on Canvas
36” X 48”

A young woman sits on a rocking horse caught between movement and stillness. In one hand she holds a book (=blueprint), in the other, a carrot with a stick (=incentive). Oh, did you notice all 6 hands? She represents two kinds of people : those who ‘day dream’ and those who get ‘day ready’. One is lost in the illusion of forward motion, the other understands that even a repetition is a step towards mastery.

Because in the end, everybody wants to rule the world but history only remembers those who are ready.

I like how this painting came together. I found the wooden tulips on a breezy afternoon in Amsterdam, the blue ceramics in Delft. What fascinated me most was their origins.

Tulips, despite their Dutch fame, first bloomed in the gardens of the Ottoman Empire. I placed the wooden blooms in a Turkish vase and, for a touch of theatre, set it inside a kaftan-shaped ceramic. As they rise, they shed their souvenir status and take on a new identity.

The blue pottery tells a similar story of migration. Its lineage in Chinese porcelain, with a dragon curling around one pot and European symbols gracing another.

Around them, lush fruits spill into the scene, transforming this quiet history into a feast for the senses. And, of course, this still life would not be complete without the red lobster.

‘Underwater Inheritance’

Inspired by the Dalmatian saying, “A fist must swim thrice: once in water, once in olive oil, once in wine,” this painting celebrates abundance through the symbolism of the Mediterranean. Ancient amphoras and red coral rest
beneath the sea, anchored by a timeless relic figure. From the underwater depths, these treasures rise to the
surface, joining fruits, wine, and olive oil in a generous feast.

A dreamlike recollection of Santorini
unfolds at sunset, bringing together the
white Cycladic architecture, curious cats,
ancient Greek vases, and the richness of
the Aegean sea. Sun-dried octopus,
wine, cheese, and grapes evoke the
rituals of a slow Mediterranean evening,
blending memory, place, and
abundance. A celebration of island life,
where history, pleasure, and
imagination meet.

Some places stay with you long after you leave 🐙🐟🐈‍⬛🌸🏺

So, there’s a little bit of everything in this painting..sun-dried octopus, fish swimming around randomly, grapes, wine, cheese..and of course, a few cats.

I think I was just trying to capture all these little things I remember from Santorini..the colours, the food, the sea, the slow island life.

And somehow, they all ended up in one painting.

This one is called ‘When the Sun Sets.’

In the studio lately, going by the last slide

☕️Starting the day with coffee (like everyone else) but hooked to this particular one that has the tasting notes of olives! 🥹
🎧Rest of the day is spent here in the studio quietly painting, listening to butter audiobook
🧈A rumbly in the tumbly every time the reader narrates butter, rice, soy sauce 🤤
🎨The paints also look too buttery 😭
