ET channeling study: do channeled messages match UFO records?

Researchers compared two very different archives.

One held over 6,000 files of trance-channeled material from 52 channelers who say they’re in contact with ETs.

The other held nearly 700,000 pages of UFO books, declassified files, and witness reports.

AI language models scored how closely each archive answered the same 10 questions.

The closest matches were that disclosure comes in stages, humans have latent psychic ability, and time isn’t linear.

The biggest split was over technology.

Channelers said space travel and free energy run on consciousness.

The UFO records said they come down to engineering, held back by secrecy.

The two archives were collected separately.

The study didn’t measure how much UFO culture the channelers had already absorbed, and there’s no way yet to verify where the messages come from.

14 neuroscience theories of consciousness, and the wine bet behind the hunt.

In 1998, neuroscientist Christof Koch bet philosopher David Chalmers a case of wine that science would find a clear brain signature of consciousness within 25 years.

In 2023, Koch paid up.

The theories are still trying: global workspace, attention schema, the cortical conductor, mind melding and 10 more.

One says your brain decides before you do. Another says free will is real and still 100% physical.

All 14 agree consciousness happens in the brain. They still can’t agree on how.

Why I study parapsychology, part 3: the Dean Radin study on intention and chocolate.

My search for more peer-reviewed research on psi led me to Dean Radin at the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study, people ate dark chocolate and tracked their mood for a week.

Three groups got chocolate that had been treated with focused intention for energy and well-being. A fourth group got identical chocolate with no intention behind it.

Nobody knew which one they had.

By the third day of eating it, mood had improved more in the intention groups than in the control group.

It’s one study, and it doesn’t explain how this could work.

But it sits in a longer line of research on intention and physical systems, and that’s data worth taking seriously.

Skeptic or seeker, what would you need to see before you took this seriously?

The hard problem of consciousness, explained.

We can record brain activity down to individual neurons, yet we still can’t explain why any of it feels like something.

Philosopher David Chalmers named this “the hard problem of consciousness” in 1994.

At its center is qualia: the redness of red, the feeling of home, what experience is like from the inside.

Every theory captures part of it. None has the whole picture yet.

The big split is whether consciousness emerges from the brain or is fundamental to reality itself.

📄 Robert Lawrence Kuhn, 2024, “A landscape of consciousness: Toward a taxonomy of explanations and implications,” Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology.

If we solved the hard problem tomorrow, what would change about how you live? Skeptic or seeker, I want to hear it.

The 10 types of consciousness theories, from most physical to least physical.

Robert Lawrence Kuhn sorted over 200 theories of consciousness into 10 categories.

At one end is materialism: consciousness is the brain and nothing more.

At the other is idealism: consciousness is the only thing that’s fundamentally real.

In between sit non-reductive physicalism, quantum theories, integrated information theory, panpsychism, monism and dualism.

Two more sit off the spectrum. One asks whether psychic phenomena and near-death experiences point to consciousness beyond the brain. The other says we may never solve this at all.

Theories of consciousness explained: one paper maps over 200 of them.

Robert Lawrence Kuhn, creator of the PBS series Closer To Truth, sorted every theory he could find onto one spectrum.

At one end, consciousness is something the brain does.

At the other, it’s the foundation of reality.

Psychic phenomena and near-death experiences get their own category.

He doesn’t pick a winner, and he isn’t convinced any of them are right yet.

William Tiller and intention research: how the Stargate rabbit hole led me to a Stanford scientist testing the mind’s effect on water.

Looking into Project Stargate opened up a world of niche consciousness research I had no idea existed.

One name kept coming up: William Tiller, a Stanford professor of materials science and engineering.

Tiller’s team had meditators focus a specific intention into a simple electronic device, then placed it next to water or fruit fly larvae.

He reported shifts in the pH of water and faster larval development, compared against identical devices with no intention.

At first I filed it away. The work never made it into mainstream journals, and it hasn’t been independently replicated.

But a respected materials scientist spent the second half of his career on this question. That alone made me look closer.

Science vs wisdom: we have a whole school subject for gathering information, and none for knowing how to use it.

Science is an incredible tool.

Nobody trains you on how to use it.

That’s sapience.

Nuclear technology is the clearest example.

We used it to kill over 200,000 people almost as soon as we built it, then built stronger ones.

80 years later, we still live with that fear.

I love science and engineering. I don’t always love what they end up doing to people and communities.

I want researchers asking how to build a healthier, happier world for individuals, not how to control or destroy systems.

I think psychic research is a step in that direction.

Where does science need more wisdom? Skeptic or seeker, tell me below.

Are nonordinary experiences a sign of mental illness? A new study of 5,117 people looked at when, where, and how they actually happen.

Researchers first fixed a measurement problem: most surveys build a spiritual or clinical interpretation right into the question.

On average, 57% of experiences happened while people were awake and alert.

Only about 3% involved substances, and about 3% involved illness.

51% reported a positive long-term effect on their life, and 15% reported a negative one.

It’s self-reported and from one country, so it doesn’t explain what these experiences are.

It does suggest they’re a normal part of waking life, and that the cultural container we view them through shapes what they do to us.

Why psychic experiments are so hard to replicate, explained through the psi paradox.

A 2020 paper in Frontiers in Psychology looks at a strange pattern in psi research.

Researchers run a sound protocol and get significant results.

Someone replicates it, and the effect doesn’t show up.

A new method gets results again, and the next replication fails again.

The author compares this to the myth of Sisyphus, and argues the pattern questions how well the scientific method fits psi research.

It doesn’t prove psi is real.

It doesn’t show psi is fake either.

It shows the usual test of “replicate it or reject it” doesn’t give a clean answer here.

📄 Rabeyron, T. (2020), “Why Most Research Findings About Psi Are False: The Replicability Crisis, the Psi Paradox and the Myth of Sisyphus,” Frontiers in Psychology, 11:562992.

If an effect won’t replicate, is it missing or are we using the wrong tools? Make your case below.

Generalized Quantum Theory study: can deleting data change how food looks?

Researchers tested a theory that treats mind and matter as two entangled sides of one system.

647 people rated food photos across four studies.

For some dishes, the calorie counts and photo ID codes were saved. For others, they were permanently deleted.

The saved dishes were rated more appetizing every time.

The images weren’t randomized, by design, so the team tested the results against thousands of random reshuffles.

A gap this large appeared by chance about 2 in 1,000 times.

That’s consistent with the theory. It doesn’t prove mind and matter are entangled.

Is this a real mind-matter connection, or a clever confound? Make your case below.

A new study just reviewed 70 years of ESP brain research.

Researchers scored the quality of 129 ESP neuroimaging studies going back to the 1950s.

Most didn’t hold up. Small samples, no correction for running dozens of tests at once, results nobody else ever replicated.

Two things survived the audit: alpha band brainwave activity in guessing tasks, and a specific EEG dip called the negative slow wave.

Neither proves psychic ability is real. Both are flagged as worth testing properly.
