It’s Tackle Tuesday! Square bills will catch em all year, but late Summer and early Fall is prime time! My top 3 are a Strike King 4.0 in Tennessee shad 2.0, a 2.5 in Sunny and a 1.5 in Summer sexy shad. I typically use the 4.0 in the 5-8’ range and the other 2 in the 3-6’ range. What I’m looking for is shallow structure in the upper portions of the lake this time of year or any kind of isolated cover especially man made brush. One of the biggest keys to getting bit this time of year is making multiple cast from different angles and getting the first fish to bite. The other key is a fast aggressive retrieve and making occasional contact with the bottom or the cover. Most places you’re not dealing with a big school, just a small wolf pack or single fish so getting a reaction bite is definitely key. @strikekinglurecompany @tackleaddict #strikeking #tackleaddict by @keith.combs

It’s Tackle Tuesday! One of my favorite September and October techniques is to cover water with a buzz bait! This is a great alternative and consistent way to catch em anytime you’re struggling offshore in the late summer or fall. One of the biggest keys is just hanging with the buzz bait long enough to run across an active area. A lot of times you can get well in a hurry. As far as areas l, I generally prefer the back third of a major creek arm with a little stain in the water. Keep your bait shallow, often times 3’ or less. Most of the fish are up there feeding on small groups of big gizzard shad so I try to choose a color and profile that imitates them. Lately I’ve been swapping out the skirt of a 3/8 Strike King Tour Grade buzz bait and replacing it with a 4.75” Rage swimmer. As far as other equipment, I prefer 50lb Seaguar Invizx, a Lew’s 7’3” Custom Lite Mag Hammer Rod and a Lew’s Hypermag reel 7.5:1. It’s Tackle Tuesday! Everyone has a bait they rely on when you just need to fill out a limit. The Denny Brauer Baby Structure Jig and Baby Menace trailer has definitely been my go-to this season. The great thing about it is it’ll get bit in just about any situation whether you’re target casting or pitching around, they just eat it! My typical setup up is a Lews 7’1” Custom Pro skipping rod, Lews Accel 7.5:1 reel, and 15-17lb Seaguar Invizx. Give it a shot the next time you’re out on the water.
